Well sadly our beach time is now over :( for now at least, though after just three days on the beach we managed to get ourselves some rather enviable 'white bits' which we're hoping we can top up once we hit Oz.
As for the last few days, we've mainly spent it continually on the go, and it seems, a little tour crazy. We took a bus from the beach to Saigon where we immediately copped out with another tour to see the infamous Chu Chi tunnels - Dan was yet again in his element with so much 'action man esq' stuff around and seeing his face light up when our guide pointed out the hiding holes and tunnels, he promply volunteeed to be one of the first in our group to attempt to fit himself in a hole in the ground the size of a shoe box! Needless to say he made team Thomson-Thorne proud and did it no problem. Oh and the tunnels weren't bad either.
Within hours of returning to Saigon though we'd gone and booked onto another tour, this time a three day trip to the Mekong Delta and up the River. And very pleasant it was too. While we had to visit weird touristy pap like a coconut sweet making factory and a bee farm (which turned out to be one lonely beehive - rubbish!) Dan and I have mainly enjoyed cruising along the Mekong at a more relaxed pace than the usual train/bus travel - it was worth it since the tour terminated in Cambodia. We also met some cool Dutch folk who seemed to share our sense of humour although our group did also consist of a loud bulgarian who wanted to play games and a moody slovakian dude who insisted on purchasing/rescuing a live snake from one of the restaurants we had lunch at! If that wasn't enough he also picked up 5 baby crocs from a croc farm (more tourist pap and Steve Irwin would've turned in his grave) we visited.
And so last night we docked in Cambodia and got to the capital Pnom Penh where we have a cushty little place near the lake for a mere $4 a night - bargains mammy! Today we took a trip out (by ourselves this time) and went to see the national museum as well as Security Prison 21. A very harrowing and emotional place that Dan and I went round in utter silence due to the some of the stuff on display. I simply can't begin to explain what it was like or even contemplate what life here must have been like for so many people, and only 30 or so years ago. And so I won't.
We're now on a 10 day count down until Oz but are really excited about going back to Thailand and seeing how things have changed since we were last there. See you in Bangkok!
