Today passed like it never existed. After checking out from our numbernineteen guesthouse, we drove to Johannesburg. Tong took the 1st leg, a long first leg to be precise. It was an over 600km journey and I took over with just 100+ km left.
Nothing much along the way. Just a couple of fuel stops. Only notable thing was the large numbers of bush fires we saw along the way. Some are just burning right beside the road! I slept most of it when I wasn't driving. Tong was pretty on form actually, drinving up to 160kpm in our little Picanto! But I realised it was only on downhill that it was possible! LOL! Tong's tactic was to charge on the downhill so the uphill leg we wouldn't lose too much momentum. Yah, our car sure deccelerates when going uphill even though our accelerator is floored. That's Picanto for you.
And so we reached Melville in Jo'burg with some daylight left. Its supposed to be a safe neighbourhood according to the forums I've read. The room was the most nicely decorated among the 3 we've stayed in. Free kettle and tea/coffee in the room as well. The bed was pretty cosy but slight small. We kept touching each other during the night..eeeeeeekks!
Just a few tens of metres away was a street full of restaurants and shops. Super convenient! We had dinner there before heading out to reconn the area. We drove past the Soccer City and it was really impressive even without any lights on.
Saw loitering blacks around and didn't feel really safe I must say. The roads are pretty lousy too compared to the rest of the cities surprisingly. A lot of roadworks going around and alot of roundabouts! Defintely will get lost without GPS I dare say.
Went back to catch some rest as it has been a really long day. 2nd last night already.
