Day 2 - She said: Well, today was awesome. Mostly because we had 10 hrs of sleep? Probably.
We started with, well, as I mentioned, a late start. Showers under awesome water pressure further delayed our departure, but around noon, we finally stepped out into a beautifully crisp day. We wandered over to Cafe Tostado for what would be a VERY strong latte and a tasty sandwich. I had ham. Andy had steak. I think he won.
We then wandered to the plaza and saw a big monument and quite a few dogs. One looked like Dad's Daisy, and another looked like our Kealy, but with dreads. He even had the same mannerisms. It was uncanny. After wandering around, making a side trip down to the water, we returned to our hotel for our pick-up.
At 2 PM, our driver (whose name I still don't know...I'll figure it out tomorrow) showed up. Our guide, Carolina, was to follow soon after. We made our way out to Otway Sound to se the penguins with a few stops for local animal photos along the way. We saw a cousin of the llama and a non-flying bird like the emu, the names of both of which I will just have to look up later. There was lots to take in.
So, we arrived at las Pingüineras del Seno Otway, and the penguin situation was pretty sparse. I was nervous. But, we got down to the beach and we got to see about 50 or so frolicking in the water and it was amazing and adorable. Was it overwhelming in numbers like Isla Magdalena would have been? No. But we were guaranteed to walk among the penguins and we did. So that was pretty sweet. Also, we want to come back and visit the Falkland Islands. We will be married for ten years one day, so that'll happen then. Ish.
On our return, we freshened up and went to Sotito's. Yum. We started with the octopus. Andy loved it. I loved the meat, but the fat was horrifying for my mouth. However, dinner was centolla a la crema, which is Spanish for "heaven". Basically, it was king crab with no work served in a cream and butter combo experience. Life is good.
After dinner, we hit a pub. Olijoe Pub. We tried the Austral beer, which was delicious, and the pisco sour, which appears to be a local cocktail thing. Both were tasty, but the highlight was the music. If you love GOOD music from 1975-1995, this is the place to go. Particularly if that love revolves around Elton John or Billy Joel, as both were featured to a significant extent. For me, I was wishing I had my Uncle Brian along to engage in a rousing game of "name that tune".
And that's our day in a nutshell folks. As they say in Germany, ich bin kaput.

cousinsister K i'm going to go to retro night tonight perhaps. that will KIND of be like going to a chilean pub playing good 80s music. and maybe i'll watch happy feet, cause that will KIND OF be like frolicking with penguins. i'd like to place an order for a penguin 4x6 please. or anything with green, brown, beige colours.
Rach I'm sure that Andy can arrange something along those lines. :)
