Arrived in Koh Tao, after a 2 hour boat ride, which was nice and smooth for a change. Arrived at the port, and was welcomed by a new style of taxi, a pick up truck with seats in the back.
We arrived at the hotel which was in Chalok Baan Kao, which was a beautiful bay on the south of the island. The hotel room however was questionable, the third bed was a thin mattress on the floor and the toilet did not flush you had to put a bucket of water down the toilet. So we made a quick drop of the bags and headed to the beach. We watched the sunset whilst on the beach, which sounds amazing, if it wasn't for three dogs doing the dirty on the beach near us.
Our 1st full day was a little overcast so we headed into Mae Haad for some food and shopping. Bought my 1st touristy item, a Chang beer vest top, as I was so HOT! Dinned under a fan and then wandered along the beach.
The afternoon was spent on the beach, relaxing and taking in the afternoon rays.
In the evening we went back to Mae Haad to see if there was any night life. We found none. The area was pretty dead, and jess commented that she wanted to tell all the people in all the bars to all head to one so we could have some atmosphere.
Full day number 2: Snorkeling! I was very worried about this as you all know I DONT LIKE BOATS!!! The day did not start off well, it poured down with rain when we left our hotel, and a cab ride on the back of a truck left us soaked through.
Due to the weather the sea was a little rough, we made our 1st stop at shark bay and I got to grips with the snorkeling equipment and being in the sea. I did not see any Sharks in Shark bay either.
By stop 2, the sea had got quite rough and Sarah was not feeling very well. Me and Jess went off and explored the reefs, they were beautiful and we saw many colorful fish, even though conditions were not great.
By stop 3 Sarah had curled up in the cabin of the boat and I and jess took a swim in Mango bay. After this we lunched on the boat, rice and chicken washed down with some chang, beer of choice on this trip.
After lunch, we headed over to Koh Nang Yuan which is a small island off the northern tip of Koh Tao, and has 3 small bays connected by a thin strip of white sandy beach. Jess and I climbed to the top to take in the views. We then had a cocktail to celebrate our day.
Dinner that night was a different experience, we went to a buffet, which you cooked your own food on coals on your table. We stuffed ourselves silly and then planned on going to the Blue Moon party. However, the locals told us it was going to be rubbish as there weren't many people on the island, so we headed back to our hotel and went to the Rasta bar. This had the best atmosphere as it was semi busy (well it had 12 people in it.) We had cocktails, chatted with the bar tender and played connect four.
The following day we were heading back to Bangkok, the ferry was the most terrifying experience of my life. The Boat was rocking side to side quite badly and confirmed why I do not like boats.
We arrived in Chumpon, luggage unscathed from falling off the boat and a long wait for the coach. We made some friends and played some card games to pass the time.
As there was only a few of us we ended up going on a Thai Bus, this was very good, we had blankets, a TV game show type programme to watch and we were getting free food, which we thought was great.....we were wrong. At midnight we stopped at the service station, we were given rice still in water with lots of random dishes, one of them being very salty tiny fish.
We arrived in Bangkok at 5am, not the greatest time to be seeing this city. A cab from the bus station dropped us off at our hostel, the woman behind the desk was asleep and when we came in, she told us we couldn't stay that night and we needed to come back at 1pm to check in for the following evening. We departed quickly and started looking for another hotel, which was not fun at 5.30am. We found one with a big comfy bed and a flushing loo.
