After a dramatic birthday in cairns an still feeling rough i wanted to just arrive in singapore an go sleep! the plan was to meet my friend lee who i`d travelled a little with in oz and hopefully share his nationwide account ;-) Changed up what little money i had to 380 singapore dollars an set off to meet lee in a place called little india i jumped on many of the airtrains an subways and ages later i finally met lee at the station. We trekked what felt like miles with half my body weight strapped to my back an front an the heat is so intense!! it was 30 at 9 in the evening!!
We arrived at where lee was staying it was in liittle india dumped my bags in the room an went for a bita food an caught up had chats on what we wana do where we wana go. First impressions of singapore hmm i wasnt fond of it much preffered oz but just went to bed quite early was happy to have a/c!
The next morning after a bad sleep from someone snoring loudly in my room! we had the free toast an headed to the internet cafe looked at maps where to go through malaysia also popping over to indonesia a place called bintan seemed pretty close! Lee seemed pretty game for it but i looked a lil more into it an it really seemed third world so we decided to go off to a lil island on the east side of malaysia called tioman island, the plan after was to bus it to the capital kuala lumpa an catch a jungle train to the top an go to another island! things were looking up an quite exciting.
So after deciding what the plan was we caught the train into city which by the way is massive! we had to find the bus depo see if there was any seats available, we walked aroun most of the day could find it eventually found it an it was all sold out! hopes were shattered, we got back to hostel spoke to the hostel staff an recomended just going johr buru by local bus crossing the border by foot an catching a bus from there! so the adventure was back on!
The next day we set off headed to the local bus station got straight on a bus an headed to johr buru! we chose the express with aircon but it was the opposite! it took a few hours to get through the border to malaysia. We eventually got through to the other side, the bus depo was huge! we wondered about a bit then bought our tickets to mersing which is on the east coast half way up around 5 hour journey. We found a macdonalds :-) whilst eating a guy sat next to us started chatting he had very good english but said he worked in the hostel we stayed in! small world also warned us not to go upstairs was very dangerous for muggings!! that was gonna be the next thing to do! glad we met that guy.
So were half way on our bus journey i was sure i see loads of monkeys! hmm wasnt sure. We arrived at mersing 5 hours later dropped off in this tiny little town seemed quite poor we had no idea what to do with booking a boat where to go it was all so spontaneous! but after that we were rushed into a little travel shop showed a few places to stay bought a ticket then told to run to the jetty as the last boat of the day was leaving so we ran with our heavy heavy luggage an got lost ha! we wasnt to happy. no one spoke english but finally found the jetty jumped on the boat just in time as it left straight away an a horrible storm had just started! i quickly took a travel tablet hoping it wasnt going to be to rough luckily it wasnt!
Another 2 hour journey we got to the island and it was our stop, this place was beautiful the water was so clear true paradise
Welcome to Tioman island!
