The place that so inspired U2, they named their 1st album after it!A bleak but beautiful landscape - a world apart from LA even though we are only a few hours drive away. Just an overnight stop here, mainly so that we could get the chance to walk up nearby Mt Maunganui.Oh and we made friends with the hostel Cockatiel (makes a change from having a cat I suppose)!

Not much to see here either (except for several statues of Captain Cook - one of which bears no resemblence to the Great Man whatsoever...he's not even wearing the correct uniform apparently)!Is meant to be one of NZ's sunniest towns....it absolutely pissed it down pretty much the whole time we were here!!Oh well - I'm sure it's lovely here in summer.
