So after spending the night in Akaroa, we drove back to Christchurch to drop off the`camper van and pick up the hire car. We dropped off the`camper and took our luggage to the airport to the hire car desk. As the girl behind the desk was putting the details through she cast a suspicious eye at our luggage which was fairly substancial. "is that all your luggage?" she asked, we told her it was, to which she showed us the picture of the car we had waiting for us. Basically we had my backpack, two big suitcases, cases of beer and bags of food, plus three people, and basically we were looking at a photograph of a daewoo matiz! We were forced to upgrade to a rather NASCAR esq Ford Falcon, and made our way up towards Picton. Mum and Dad decided to come and spend a night in Furneaux Lodge to see where i worked and take in the scenery.
I left them in Picton and they drove the hire car to nearby Punga Cove, and decided to walk the 3 and a half hour stretch of the Queen Charlotte track round to Furneaux. I arrived fairly early at Furneaux and waited for Mum and Dad to arrive, well the time ticked on and the time i was expecting them came and went, and we waited, and by now all the staff were quite worried for them! So we rang Punga, and they told us that indeed my Mum and Dad had arrived and were last seen at the bar! Well eventually they arrived and we had a really nice evening, they met Lily and we all had a good night.
Mum and Dad left the next day, and really from through till christmas i just worked really. I spent a lot of time with Lily as she left on 23rd December for good, which was less than fun! Christmas Day and Boxing Day were fairly uneventful, they were quiet days and i was working, it is certainly one of the mst uneventful Christmas holidays i think i have ever had, which was fine as anything else would have just made me miss home even more. Boxing day night we had a good party, which ended up with me pulling a shard of glass out of my foot and spurting blood all over the bathroom floor!
Once Boxing Day passed, the peak season kind of kicked in, we were packed constantly throughout the day and it was just no fun. My plans of staying until February were fast dissapearing and then we came to New Years Eve. We were prepared for a busy night in the bar, we put on a band, a barbecue and usually some 500 people show up. I have worked in 7 bars now, and worked a`lot of busy shifts, but i can`say with complete conviction that that night was the worst shift i have ever worked on a bar. I decided fairly soon after that i was going to hand in my notice and come down to Dunedin to be with Lil.
Cutting a long story short that's what's happened, i have now left Furneaux and i am now down in Dunedin with Lily, i will soon be looking for a` job down here and hopefully extending my Visa for another year.
Those of you who are family, and those close to our family will know that there maybe circumstances that cause these plans to shift dramatically and i may be home sooner than i expected to be, but we shall see. Positive thinking is all we need for now.
With that in mind i just want to say that if it wasn't for a certain person, i would not be in New Zealand, i would not be the person i am, and i would not have had the incredible life i have had so far.
Thank you Mum.
Take care all :)
