Ben and Marie's American Road Trip
Today, we were venturing into NYC again, but today instead of just shopping, we were going to tackle the Empire State Building. Once again, we got the train into New York and set about finding someone to sell us tickets, which did not take long at all. So we both bought a flex pass, which would enable us to do 2 of the many attractions in New York. It was raining, so we made our way to the Empire State Building on foot under cover of different shops and various sets of scaffolding. We decided against buying ourselves ponchos. We got to the building and entered at ground floor, where you get tickets and then went through security on floor 2. It was pretty busy and after queuing for about 15 minutes, we made our way up to the 80th floor, the exhibition level. The view was incredible, and there was still more to come!! You could see for miles in every direction, and the skyline of manhattan was something else entirely. Me and Marie made our way through the crowds to a few windows to take pictures and selfies. There was plenty of information about the building, along with a really cool video that was projected onto the top of the lift as you went up towards the top. After we did the indoor floor, and another short queue we made our way up another 6 floors to the observation floor, which had an outdoor 360 degree view. It was a rainy day, but it didn't dampen what an amazing experience this was. Looking down from the edge at the railings and seeing the drop felt like you'd never stop falling. We took more pictures and spent some time taking in the views, before heading back downstairs to the gift shop. Most of the time spent in the gift shop was on postcards, I didn't realise marie had such an attraction to them until we came away. After marie bought a postcard and a paper weight of all things, just what we needed to take home on the plane with luggage weight restrictions, we made our way back down to Times Square for some more shopping. We went to the Hershey's store and bought lots of chocolate, as if our diet wasn't bad enough already. This we did before making our way back to the station for a train ride home, it was quite a long day with all the queuing but definitely worth it, plus we still had 3 more days in New York, so plenty of time left.
