January 2010
We haven't really done a great deal this month. We've just tried to hang at home as much as possible, to save enough to go on more exciting trips. Luckily we've both picked up a fair bit of work, Dan's not actually managed to have a day off since we got back from Edinburgh. I did the first two weeks of the term at the most amazing private school just a few stops up the tube line in Hammersmith. Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman are both ex-students, and whilst I was there, Elle McPherson had her daughter sit the 11+ entrance exam. It was a place I walked into a classroom and did this thing called 'teaching'. It was a bit of a foreign concept to me, but I managed with ease. They even dished up a free 2-course meal everyday for free, and it was delicious. There's a possibility of me going back for another week at the end of the term, and maybe some exam supervision later in the year.
We went and saw Billy Connolly in Hammersmith. We ended up buying some cheap tickets from a guy on Gum tree, and saved ourselves a nice little sum. It was a really great show, although poor old Billy has gotten on a bit recently, and is starting to show his age.
We ventured out to play with all the Goths and hippies at the Camden markets, and ate some more delicious food. I think market food over here is awesome. I had some Hungarian bread that was topped with garlic, sour cream and cheese, while Dan had a Hog Roll (Slow roasted whole pig).
We've booked in some trips for the next couple of months; Amsterdam for a week in Feb half term, then Dan's mum Cheryl, arrives for a few weeks at the end of Feb, so we're doing a recon visit to Paris, and a mini English road trip. We've also booked in a tour of Egypt for May, and we're now looking to spend the Easter break in Croatia and Slovenia (Although Dan doesn't really go because he told me today that they're 3rd world countries????). We're looking to maybe do Turkey and Greece over the summer holidays, and we might throw in Switzerland, Austria, Czech and Poland for good measure! Oh yeah, we've also bought tickets to go back to Rock Werchter in Belgium again. Only a couple of bands have been announced this far; Muse, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Pink and Rammstein.(Also now, Jack Johnson, The Gossip, Florence + The Machine, La Roux, uhmm a few more - Wolfmother, JayZ and Them Crooked Vultures are also apparently playing too, yet not officially confirmed on the rockwerchter page) And I promise we'll be home for an Aussie Christmas and NYE this year, there's no way that we can handle another English winter.
