Today was our first full day in Hanoi - so we decided to sort out Halong Bay tour out and see a few bits around the town. We had some lunch up the road and rented a bike, we also managed to find a good deal on the Bay Tour so all paid up and got that sorted. We started our day by going to the lake where a B52 was shot down and the wreckage has been there. We got a little lost and had a drive around the mausoleum which was really busy due to it being 'the fall of Saigon' bank holiday at the moment. We finally found the alley way and it's really surreal as you drive down these really small lanes with talk buildings either side and come out to an opening where the small lake is - we stiff got a few snaps and appreciated the situation then jumped back on our hog and headed off to the Ha Lao prison. This prison was created on the site where a small village used to be - the French demolished the village and replaced it with, what was, indochinas highest security prison. We parked our bike and had a look around, most of the prison isn't there any more but they have still got some artefacts and cross from when it was an active prison. The Vietnamese used the prison during the American war to keep prison if war, mainly pilots. The information was like most museums we have been to and is biased and exaggerated but it was good to have a look around and by the time we had finished we were ready to head back and get some food.
We spent tonight wandering around looking in a few shops and finding see here to eat (which is harder than it sounds!) - all fed we grabbed an early night as we have to be up early to go on our trip to Halong Bay!
