Today we are doing our trip around the islands, so we got up sorted a few bits out and headed to the restraunt for our free breakfast, banana pancakes and iced coffee! after this we we've give our paddles and life jackets and pointed towards the beach. So we headed to the beach at the north of the island to get our kayaks, luckily they were 3 person kayaks which is a lot easier to use when there are two people. First port of call was the small waterfall that links two islands - a nice scenic paddle and we stopped just before them. Here we took a walk through a village and through some rice paddies. When we got there it wasn't what I expected at all - it was huge! A few photos and a rest we walked down past the falls back to a lush small beach where we had lunch. Full from BBQ chicken and rice we headed to the next part, which was some 'rapids' - this part was slightly disappointing for me but Hana was glad as they were little waves and not bad at all! After that we headed to the Cambodian boarder where the river opened out on all side to make it look like a giant lake. This is the pool which is the only place to find the Irrawaddy dolphins - we couldn't see many up close but it was amazing seeing poke out of the water, after about half an hour of floating around watching them we waded off along the boarder to the main land of Laos. This is where we got a truck to take us to the largest water fall in south east Asia! This one was impressive, it's only 15m high but 1km wide! The power of the water was intense and we just sat and watched it for about 10 mins - after that me and Hana grabbed an ice cream and found some shade as this was our first taste if sunshine for the last 2 weeks and it was hot! Waterfall done we jumped back into the truck ad headed north a little where we theN Kayaked back to the beach where we started. This was really nice as the sun was really low by this point so made the water look amazing! Finally back on Don Det we we went back to our rooms, grabbed a quick shower and went up the road for some food - the place we went had a BBQ and Putin (? Not sure if that's spelt right but it's a French dish which is chips cheese ad gravy! So good!). Thoroughly fed and having a chat with some very interesting people, we headed back - this is when the fun happened.
As I walked in I found a little visitor, a cockroach, now Hana hates most bugs but these she hates the most. After a comical attempt to kill it he diss alerted but returned with a few if his buddies. At this point we can here the scurrying about and decided we weren't going to stay there - whilst packing our things I learnt that the b*****s fly! Why, oh why do the fly, that's made a bad thing worst! All packed again we locked the room and headed back up toward where we ate, on the way we found a cool little place called happy bar.... The people we really friendly and had one room available - we were offered to drink with them but by the time we put our stuff down we realised we just wanted to sleep! Another fun day done! Tomorrow we are thinking of renting a few bikes and heading to Don Kong to see the waterfalls and beaches there!
