Hello! Merry Chrissy!
Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and have a Happy new Year. Just to update you on the last couple of weeks of travelling. I think the last blog was from Melbourne and consisted of mainly Neighbours based activities! We left melbourne a couple of weeks ago and got the night bus to Sydney, arriving at 7am to find our room in the hostel wouldn't be ready until midday. So we went and had breakfast and chilled out a bit and fell asleep in the tv room at the hostel. When midday finally arrived, we were both feeling pretty rough after not sleeping much the night before. We opened our door to our 6-bed dorm room to find 4 stinky boys asleep, cans of coke, bottles of beer and goon boxes all over the floor. For all those who don't know what goon is, it's basically 'boxo wine' which contains traces of fish and eggs and nuts (mmmmm i hear you say) it's mega cheap and everyone drinks it straight from the box over here. Anyway, so with the nasty smelly room, we headed out into Sydney to do some sight seeing.
Over the next few days we discovered the shopping districts, we went up the Sky Tower which had really amazing views of the whole city. We got the ferry to Manly for the day and topped up our tans on the beach. We also had hot chocolate in the Bald Man shop (thanks for the tip beck!) on the hottest day of the week.
We stayed in an apartment for my birthday in Darling Harbour and on my actual birthday we walked around the harbour a bit and also went to see the Opera House and harbour bridge for the first time. It's a pretty spectacular building to see! The rest of my birthday I enjoyed using the gym at the apartment (what luxury!) and ate loads of cake. It was a sad day when we had to leave the lovely apartment to go back to the city for one night before moving to Colloroy Beach for christmas. Colloroy is about an hour outside the city, its a lovely little surfy beachy town and since arriving here we have had a few nice sunny days and so have been on the beach a lot.On christmas day we opened a few presents from Mum and Dad (thanks mum!) and had a big lunch with most of the hostel. Unfortunately there was no roast potatoes or gravy but we did enjoy the traditional New Zealand lunch and felt pretty stuffed afterwards!
Over the next few days we are hoping to take a trip to palm beach, where they film Home and Away and on saturday we are heading back to the city for new Year at the harbour. It gets pretty busy down there we have heard so we will be staking out a pitch at about 9am...and picnic-ing all day until midnight and the huge fireworks display. We have lots of things we want to fit in before leaving for new Zealand on 8th January including a trip to the Blue Mountains, Bondi Beach, Coogee beach etc etc. We feel like the last month has flown by and it's a shame we wont get to travel any further up the east coast. Australia is just HUGE! Oh well, there' always next time!
We are both well and no major incidents to report...except ben getting sunburnt eyes (ouch) and looking like he's had a few rounds with Mike Tyson.
Happy New Year to everyone at home and thank you for all your christmas/birthday messages!
Lots of love
Sarah xxxx
