hello
arrived in the pouring rain which is big over here. got confused at the busses which you would have thort we were getting used to by now. finally got the right bus and made it to downtown Vancouver and then had to walk 4 blocks in the rain to the hostel where they looked at us funny as we were all wet which was mean. got out room and looked around all very nice and then went in search of dinner (true huntsmen) to the supermarket it was. stocked up on supplies then had dinner and headed for bed as jet lag had set in.
the next day was sunny and quite warm so we took a stroll round stanley park which juts out from the city into the ocean. it was very nice and pretty but a lot bigger than we anticipated and took us a while to walk round just half of it. so we cut through the middle on some of the trails and found beaver lake which was really nice and relaxing could have sat there a while but we were hungry so had to move on in search of food through the rest of the park. got back to the hostel and had dinner and played cards then went to bed.
had a lazy day monday, spent the morning researching our big adventure into the mountains next week, looking at where we wanted to go and how much it would cost. so then on impulse we went and bought the tickets so we have no choice now but to go.
tuesday we went up a big mountain. to get to it though was a bit of a mission, bus then seabus then another bus, but confusing enough already it is on the same ticket and the seabus is a little ferry that takes you across the water to north vancouver. however what we can't work out is why you dont get on one bus that takes you over the bridge that they built over the water. got to the base of grouse mountain and got a very expensive gondola ride to the top where you get a complementary video which made us want to sleep. nice up on the mountain covered in snow and very cold, but had a lot of fun playing in the snow and seeing two big bears that were orphans but luckily man was there to put them in a cage for us to see.
had another relaxing day on wednesday got up for breakfast which we stuffed our faces with food, then went back to bed got up bout 11 and went on the hunt for gloves for our trip to the big mountains. walked about 10k round the south of the city as we are to tight to get the bus. found some cheap gloves so our mission was complete for the day. back to the hostel with a bottle of wine and dinner.
today we went up again near grouse mountain across on the seabus to capiliano, a big suspension bridge over a gorge with tree top walkways which were a bit rubbish! so came back to the hostel and lazed around a bit.
will try and put some of our pictures on the blog but dont know if we can do it. hope all is well at home. speak soon
today we didnt really know what to do, but it was sunny so we decided to take a walk around the rest of stanley park to see the bits we had missed the other day, upon walking we stumbled across the aquarium and found a bit where you can sneak in to see some beluga whales and sea lions. lets just say they were pretty ugly!! aquariums are usually quite rubbish but seeing as they had whales we thort we'd go in and have a look. so we went in and found some fish surprisingly. outside they had big tanks so we thought that could be interesting an went to explore and found some whales, otters, sea lions and some dolphins. bit surprised as it was like a mini sea world in the middle of a park. they performed shows and you could watch them train them, where nicky found it hard to get ben away from the dolphins as he was mesmerised by them. throughout the day we had to keep going back to the dolphins to see if they had learnt anything knew. when it was time to leave we walked back to the hostel to see our knew roomies. 2 south africans named nicky (good name) and kaisley which took a bit to get it right, the plan was to sit up and chat and have a few beers but they were light weights and went to bed. we followed soon after a bit giggly as we had to get up and leave tomorrow.
woke up with a headache so ben had to do all the packing again ha ha! we had booked tickets for the bus tonight at 6:30 so had a bit of a wait so we passed the time with ben getting all excited as we were going to the mountains and watching csi. we left to get the bus to the train station around 4 where we would then get the big bus, so we had more waiting to do at the bus station which was getting really boring now. had our first macdonalds which is a lot cheaper than home then eager we waited in line at the front to get some good seats, we were allowed on first woo and got front seats which we would later regret!!! so we set off on the bus with a 14 hour bus journey to banff. left vancouver and hit the mountains pretty quickly where the roads got really bad all covered in ice and snow which made it really scary when your sitting at the front and the driver doesnt seem to care about the roads and overtakes lorries really fast on icy corners. so we figured that we couldnt watch and went to sleep. however it didnt last long and we woke up to the driver pumping the brakes because the wheels were locking up!!! so it only seemed right to sleep more and hope that we arrive in banff safely.
