We finally left Bali (never thought I'd say that) and flew to Singapore. We had a very pleasant taxi ride from the airport to our hotel in the back of a Mercedes with a very friendly driver. He warned us that our hotel was in the red light district (we knew this, but it was cheap!). We were still surprised when most of the street was lined with brothels… but when it's grand prix weekend you can't be too picky! And it turned out that most of the restaurants around us were cheap and really good! We did a bit of sightseeing around the colonial district, going on a river cruise and having the obligatory Singapore sling in Raffles before going crazy and buying tickets for the whole weekend of the grand prix! It was brilliant! As well as the formula one there were formula BMW and Porsche 911 races, along with motorbike stunt shows and both Missy Elliot and Mariah Carey (she looks really fat) concerts. Obviously the night race was the best bit… it was just a shame Lewis crashed out. At least he waved at us on his way back to the pits! It was really good fun and even Lois got very excited about the race and is already planning our next grand prix trip!
Even though we spent most of our time at the grand prix we managed to fit in the botanical gardens (it was great but it rained hard!) and the zoo and night safari. Both were great, and the lions were roaring on the night safari as we passed them to make it even better!!
We were really sad to be leaving Singapore - we'd had a great time. It was a very nice change in pace from the rest of asia. And we'd been worrying about India (our next destination) ever since we'd bought the lonely planet!
