Netherlands today! Leaving the pretty German country side, we have a shortish drive to holland. We stop for a Burger King lunch and arrive by about 2pm. The Edam countryside is beautiful:) we arrive in a little town for bike riding! Cobble stone paths, thatched roves, canals with tiny drawbridges, and so many old school bikes! We arrive at "dyke bikes" and set about finding a bike that suits us haha! There are big ones, small ones, old ones, ancient ones, I find one and take it for a spin! Besides that handlebars being very small and off balance, I like it:) we set off as a big group causing quite a bit of chaos. People falling over, riding on the foot path which is illegal, being on the wrong side of the road and just being a general menace id say. Poor Tals ran into a parked car and had to head back, along with a few others. Our first stop though is one of the dykes separating the ocean from the land. The nice guy there did a demonstration of how they worked, and it's so amazing how quickly the canals can fill, or empty! Pretty much, if all the dykes broke or were opened, the whole of the Netherlands would flood and become submerged again. We venture onto a windmill that has a similar operation, it was massive! Another 20mins or so of riding and I think the guy has had enough of us. He was a funny guy (pretty sure he was high?) and wore a great pair of clogs! Next it was back on the coach to a clogs and cheese demonstration. We got a very brief run down on how they make and store cheese, and they a showing of how to make clogs by hand. This guy (also likely high) was great, a real entertainer. We then had fun trying on different clogs and I resisted the urge to buy a fun pink pair! They are legitimately very comfortable. Then, because we were in the country, found a cute little piggy wondering about:) he was very friendly and loves crackers! I wanted to keep him! Our hotel was only 10mins away, and once again we had the 45mins to get ready before heading out into town. Quickly showering, we just make it to the bus in time, only 20mins or so from Amsterdam, we really are in a great location, best of both worlds really. We are dropped off near central station and its onto our sex show in the district. We have 1/2 free time so Liz takes everyone to a bar called the grasshopper, to either have a smoke or drink before the show. Needing an ATM however, myself, Troy and Sally run off to find one. Third time lucky after the first are out of order, we come back to discover 99% of people have already had a browny, much to Liz's amusement, he had told people to have no more that 2, and the night had only just started! Trying to keep together as best we could, we walk passed windows of girls and shops, and get the feeling that there are few rules in Amsterdam, and nearly anything is fine. I wouldn't say they push sex in your face, it's just kind of the way it is. Feels almost normal here? Nobody cares or is bothered, family's walk home or out to dinner through the districts, as its a small area in the center of town. Oddness I know. We get two free drinks for the 1hr long performance, and there is 2 dancers, and 3 couples. We all happily chattered away like we were at a bar or something, and didn't really find it awkward as I think we imagined it to be a lot worse haha. Afterwards we all split us and myself, Troy, wriggles, Tals and Eliott went into the free sex museum next door. Manly just photos and sculptures though the ages, the only scary thing was a weird adult version of Hansel and Gretel that was playing. Everyone had planned to meet back at the grasshopper so we headed there next, crisscrossing though the windowed alleyways trying to find a descent looking girl hahha we'd say the highest was a 6/10! Not really being mine and troys thing, we shared a browny which is manly just a mixture of tabaco, an had some beers while the others smoked and had a fun time discussing the kookiness of Amsterdam. We then managed to get on the right bus back to our hotel, and off at the right stop in total darkness, and walk to the right place! They call me the navigator.
