This morning we woke up and we were in Istanbul. We had a really busy day looking at the sights. We went to an Underground Cistern which is a water storage area under the city. It is really old and the roof is held up by lots of ancient marble pillars. There were fish swimming in there. It was dark but they had lights so you could look around. Mum thinks this site has been used in a few movies like Tomb Raider and James Bond.
Next we went to St Sophia Museum and then to a place called Topkapi Palace where Sultans used to live. The best thing there was an amazing collection of jewels like gold cups decorated with lots of emeralds, rubies and pearls. There was even a gold babies cradle decorated with lots of jewels. At the palace they have a huge diamond (85 carat!). There were a lot of knives and swords from famous sultans and also an ancient sword called the "Sword of David". There were guards with machine guns standing around the Palace.
We then had lunch and fell asleep in the bus with dad and Gabe. Mum went to the Grand Bazaar where she bought us a jumper (it is cold and raining at the moment). Mum also bought a couple of scarves.
Next we went on a ferry down the Bosphorous Strait which separates Istanbul into the European side and the Asian side.
The city is very big and about 17million people live here.
Turkey is a place where some legends like Genies, Magic Carpets, the "All Seeing Eye" and Medusa come from. Also a lot of Saints came from Turkey.
