We leave in 6 months from now.
Although it is still a loooong time before the trip starts... mentally we are already there. Reading guide books, going on forums for info, planning an itinerary... The fun has begun!
Here's how we see our itinerary so far in big lines:
1) Sept1: 1st week: fly into Darwin and visit Darwin. Then rent a motorhome and visit the surrounding Kakadu National Park and Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park, on our way to Alice Springs.
2) Sept8: 2nd week: drive through the Outback to Alice Springs (perhaps visitinghttp://www.alicedesertfestival.com.au)
3) Sept 11: 2nd week: visit Uluru and surroundings with the motorhome and leave the motorhome in Alice Springs
4) Sept 15: 3rd week: fly from Alice Springs to Perth, rent a car and visit Perth. Visit the surroundings of Perth (Fremantle, Margaret River) and then fly to Adelaide
5) Sept 22: 4th week: rent a car for the coming 6 weeks. First visit one of the wine regions around Adelaide (McLaren Vale or Barossa?) then continue along the coast
6) Sept 25: 4th week: take the ferry to Kangaroo island and spend a few days there to see the wildlife
6) Sept 30: 5th week: drive along the Great Ocean Road to Torquay and then visit Melbourne: catch a football finals game, visit the Fringe Festival http://www.melbournefringe.com.au and the International Art Festivalhttp://www.melbournefestival.com.au/aboutus
7) Oct 10: 6th week: take the ferry to Tasmania and spend a good week there
8) Oct 19: 8th week: drive towards Sydney, visiting on the way Ninety Mile Beach, these beachside towns: Lakes Entrance and Mallacoota (VIC), Eden, Pambula beach, Jervis Bay (whale watching) and Gerringong (NSW)

Sharon Yeah, where does PG&E get off trying to upgadre their own equipment? This capitalism stuff is ridiculous, and private companies that provide invaluable services shouldn't be able improve their products! We need the government to run electrical utilities b/c they are much more efficient, aas proven in all other facets, ie USPS, Social Security, EPA, Medicare. Give me a break! God forbid one of the largest utilities in the nation try and provide a better service to its millions of customers, while be coming more green . You commi's can't have it both ways. By the way, what substantial accredited research has been done to support any of these anti-smart meter claims. It seems to me that the majority of studies conclude the meters are safe, yet these protesters continue to gin up fear in the hopes of their own empowerment. I mean think, who heard of this douche Josh Hart? This guy is an unemployed nobody, who is probably been on EDD assistance for the full 3 years, living off of the tax payers. Meanwhile, he's out building his own brand. An ego maniac who's skewed information for his own self-engrandizement, and power over hippie putty brains that have been living in homes with all kinds of RF. Yet, the meter on the outside of their home has caused immeasurable damage. Or, was it all of the drugs you guys did in the 60 s and 70 s? Hats off to Josh Hart, he's going to get rich on the backs of PG&e, and all of you wack jobs who call for progress, yet hate it when it arrives. No matter what PG&E does you guys will be mad, get a hobby.
