Another week almost over and onto the next destination tomorrow morning. I am getting a chicken bus at 8am from here to Xela which is about 4 hours away. I think unless i find something i really want to do in Xela then il move on midweek to Monterrico and have a few days on the beach before i do another few weeks of spanish. My spanish is coming on well now, i just need to be more confident and take my time rather than trying to answer quickly and giving simple answers.
This week has been more chilled and less excursions. We had a mad night out which did not plan at all on Tuesday night. We had another excellent meal at D'noz and was chatting to Dean who owns it. He was a top chef in a posh hotel chain in the Uk and had been in Guatemala for 12 years and has built his own home and business and has a family here now. He trained the Guatemalan guys who cook the food there so that explains why its such good quality food!
Tuesday was mothers day here so D'noz was busy and it was nice to see the locals supporting a business owned by a foreigner. Me and Kerry purposly didnt drink, thats until Alex arrived. Alex works in D'noz and knows us now. He wanted to drink and before we knew it we had 2 shots of tequila each in front of us! we moved on and continued way after the clubs closed! it was a good night and met loads of people who have travelled through and stayed. Met an Italian guy Massimo who has been in San Pedro 5 years now and an english girl Tamara who has been here 2 years and cant see herself leaving! Everyone is so settled here and the locals treat them as locals too.
Wednesday after class i took a boat over to Santa Cruz for the night. I stayed on the dock in a hotel i have heard lots about. It was a nice hotel but so quiet. We sat down at 7pm to a family style dinner all together on 2 tables. there was 14 of us. it was good but conversation was rather uninthralling for me! Talking about coffee plantations...yay!
Santa Cruz was lovely but far too quiet for my liking and after taking a walk in the morning i couldnt wait to get back to San Pedro.
I bumped into Kerry as soon as i got back and she filled me in on the gossip from the previous day. Aparently the owners of our hostel lowered the staffs wages and most of them walked out. The owners were being rude and upsetting everyone! bloody Isrealis...theyre such a rude race. ive met 4 nice isrealis in my whole trip away out of the million that are around. the kitchen and hostel was deserted in the morning and the staff were on strike. most of the staff didnt even return in the evening but the kitchen was finally open at 5. so didnt even get our free cup of tea in the morning. the owners actually didnt care. they dont do anything so if the staff arent there then the hostel doesnt function and they just sit there. bad way to run a business.
Ive heard Louise has given birth to a baby boy. Congratulations Lou and Matt. Cant wait to hear more information later on when mum messages me.
Hope all is well at home
