So i finally left Guatemala after 7 funfilled weeks. i love that country. have such a good time everytime. My last few days were epic. loved them. So Thursday night i went to salsa class but there were so many students there so me and my amiga Hannah went for dinner. I introduced her to D'Noz then got an early night.
Friday was my last class with Francisco. It was a good class because i finished learning the future tense and practiced that, and he wanted to see photos of back home and you lot. So we went to my hotel as it has wifi and I showed him Swindon, the family, and some photos on facebook, which he enjoyed seeing. We had an incident with a frog also, he is scared of them which is so funny and there was one coming closer and closer so i made him jump! After when we went back to class, we chatted and when he rounded up the class he was so sweet with what he said to me that i got all welled up and teary eyed! He said that when he found out i was returning he was really excited and couldnt wait to see me again, and when he teaches me its like talking with a friend instead of teacher student normal seriousness. He said we get along so well and have such a great relationship and thats so rare. He will miss me also. So sweet. So friday night after i went to watch the teachers play the students at football. female and male this time, that went on til 8 then i had dinner and met a few of the teachers in the bar near my hotel. We chatted and then the afterparty was on the roof of my hotel so we all chilled there for a while.
Saturday, i packed and met Hannah for lunch at Shanti Shanti and planned my last night out! To start the night, we had a drink in clover, non alcoholic with a few mates, then we went for a curry at Ventana Blue. Got changed and ready for my night out and went to buddah where it was still quiet. so skipped that and went back to Clover. My friend Massimo was working so made the night more fun. The puppy i had been fussing and playing with all week was in clover with us all night and everyone thought she was my dog. She got on one of the tables and Massimo grabbed her and brought her over to me and shouted out 'Bekki...your dog'! was funny, i got some looks! She has no owner at the moment.
I flitted between friends at both bars, then settled at clover until 11. We waited for massimo and along with Hannah, 2 new guys Trent and Mike and Massimo we went to Alex and Randys house where they had a house party to send me off. It was good fun. Claudina got her hats and wigs out and sorted me out with a new look, which no one believes is me when i show them the photo! its funny. at around 3:30am, me Massimo and Hannah left and i had to say goodbye to all the gorgeous friends i have made. it was sad. Hannah kipped at mine that night and we woke up to hear the puppy outside my room!
I booked my shuttle to Antigua and decided to go at 8am. Just as i was gona get into the shuttle, i saw a tiny puppy who mustve been 5 weeks old. She was so skinny, it broke my heart. Again, no collar, no owner. I almost stayed and looked after her, or i was gona take her in my bag to Antigua, but i knew they wouldnt let me in with a dog. So i let her walk off down the road but it tore me up. felt so guilty.
So i had my first shuttle experience. 8 israelis, meant we had to stop several times, as they wanted to sit and take their time in a rest stop to have breakfast! I got there eventually and got back to the black cat hostel. Had a chat with the guys there and everything was cool. So i met Winston, my ole American buddy. Hes working in a school just outside Antigua. So had some dinner together then i got an early night. The guys kept my dorm free so i had a private room basically which was nice but kinda lonely also. Monday morning I wandered to a salon there called skin deep and asked for a leg wax and pedicure. so spent an hour and half being pampered which was nice. and so cheap also. cost like £16. and my feet appreciated it. I went for my first cup of Guatemalan real coffee in a cafe of the way back and got chatting to a lovely American lady whose retired and now living in Antigua. She helps a family there and i got to hear all about it. We talked for around hour and a half over the best coffee ive ever had. Black coffee too! Refuge is the name of the cafe. Eventually i got back and sorted through a few things online, then after a storm finished i went to book my bus and get some dollars. Errands done, i settled at the bar for the night, and chilled with Jurgen and the new bar girl Jess. We savoured shots of a 26year old dark Rum, keep forgetting the name, but its expensive and they both claim its the best rum in the world. opinion or fact...no se. so after about 5 of those and a few beers, we are all well and truly happy and take some crazy and funny photos.
Somehow i managed to get up for 5:30 and miraculously i had packed my bag without remembering last night, was great!
Shuttle to Playa El Tunco in El Salvador took 6 hours as we had to drop some people off in San Salvador first. The part we went through looked nice. There was only 4 of us on the shuttle so i could lay down and close my eyes although the roads were too bumpy for me to sleep, i just dozed. I met an English 19year old girl from Cheltenham funnily enough called Grace. She was going to El Tunco so we chatted and we ended up sharing a room at the hostel. really sweet girl. Met another English couple whove just arrived to begin 5 weeks of travelling. There were not many travellers in town, very quiet, a bit like Monterrico. Mossies everywhere, bitten to shreds and my spray removed my newly painted nail varnish so im really pissed at that! Need another pedicure!
El Tunco itself is a surfer town, all the guys walk around with board shorts on, tops off, a lot carrying a surfboard around. they all have long hair. Very hip! Feel like i should get involved but i think id drown within 5 seconds in these waves! Had lots of seafood there, i had a plate of fried shrimps with a fried tortilla and salad. Its not expensive here. Me and Grace decided to go buy some spaghetti and bolognese sauce for dinner as the hostel has a kitchen and it came to like $2.50 for 2 packets of everything! Really good, cheap day! I need to have a few of these and make the most of when i have use of a kitchen. So spag bol minus the meat!
Wednesday me and Grace went for breakfast at a local cafe where the man Daniel spoke in only spanish to us, so being as Grace doesnt speak it, i found myself doing the talking and translating so was really good for me. i enjoyed it. and el salvadorian spanish accent is very different to guatemalan. After we sat on the beach for hours, just watching the surfers and catching some rays! We went out for an early dinner with the english couple, Vicky n Freddie and then went back to the hostel where the power then went out. so from about 4:30pm to 6am the next day we had no power or water. aparently from what grace could understand, a plane hit the pylon and got caught up and took all Tuncos power out, so he worked tirelessly to untangle himself and fix the damage. crazy stuff!
