Hi everyone - sorry this blog entry is so late! I have been ridiculously busy since we got back! Not that I'm complaining - making the transition into normality much easier!!! Nice to see you all by the way - glad we managed to surprise at least some of you with our fake return date! Hehehe! Now, where did we last leave you… oh yes, I had just managed to escape my stalker! Hehehe! So, onwards…Travelled Wednesday night over to Varanasi. Was so almost late for the train because we were trying to find Dan's camcorder - annoyingly we think it may have been stolen! So we lost 7 hours of film footage - pretty rubbish really but nothing we can do about it. Then the train was late anyway - by about 2 hours! Fun fun fun! However, we made some pretty cool traveller friends from Kent & Surrey who were sort of in our compartment! Chatted (apparently a bit too loudly!) & some Indian women said to me 'some of us are trying to sleep, please talk slower'!!! She meant quieter but it was dead funny! So of course we started talking slower for a while - but I don't think she quite understood!!Arrived in Varanasi on Thursday mid-morning & caught a rickshaw to our hotel (after arranging to meet our new friends that night for dinner) - which is GORGEOUS!!! It has a massive garden, air-conditioned restaurant, funky café, pool, massage place AND organises its own tours! Which we decided to do tomorrow - 1 morning one & 1 afternoon 1! We went to the café for lunch then fell asleep for most of the afternoon we were so tired! Oops! Got showered & a bit dressed up for dinner (for the first time in like forever! Felt quite good actually!) then went to meet the guys. We ended up having dinner at our hotel because the restaurant is so nice!Very early start to the day - left the hotel at 5am!! Yayness! Because boat rides on the river Ganges are best at sunrise - lots of religious happenings & people around! Cant drive right the way to the river as the streets are narrow near the Ganges so we had to walk down an alley-way! My word it is smelly! Never smelt anything so awful in my life! Mixture of all things bad really! The boat ride was really short as the current was ridiculously strong - the river level is also ridiculously high! We did however see a lot of people bathing & washing in the disgustingly dirty river, & cremation going on by the river!! Plus, we got stuck on a dead cow! How awful??!! It had died and got stuck on a railing, then the river level rose & now only its head is showing! And the current made it bob up & down so me & Dan thought it was still alive! Ewww! Even worse was that there was a man washing his clothes in the river right next to the corpse! Even ewww-er! Saw a couple of temples before coming back to the hotel. Where we had breakfast, then fell asleep - AGAIN!! Well, that's what happens when you wake up at 4.30am! Had some lunch at the café before going out again in the afternoon to see many more temples! But we were soooo bored of temples & ridiculously hot by the time we got back! Went straight for dinner in the air-conditioned restaurant before meeting our friends again in the café for drinks & apple shisha until we had to leave for out train - which we were almost late for again! When we got to the train we were very close to one end of it. We knew the carriage we were in would be close to an end - and because we couldn't see it from where we were standing, we decided it was down the other end! So we half walked, half ran to the other end (the train has like 20 carriages so took aaaages!)… and realised that it was right near where we were waiting before hand! Woops! So we ran all the way to the other end! Were so hot & bothered by the time we sat down that even the air-conditioning wasn't helping! Lol.Arrived in Old Delhi station in the morning and got a rickshaw to our hotel - which took a while to find! Again, we ended up falling asleep for most of the afternoon then watched a bit of television before going to bed again! Except this time we couldn't sleep! Felt soooo weirded out that we were leaving the next day that we tossed and turned all night until finally getting up at about 4.15am! Used up the last of our money at the airport then jumped on the plane!Only a 9 ½ hour journey but it seemed to go on foooorrreeevvveeeerrrrrr! Because we were so ancy! Finally arrived and were greeted by my parents - my Dad wielding a camera to photograph our return! After a short-ish journey back Dan was mobbed by his family too! So emotional for everyone! It was really weird being back in England for the first few days - I actually had trouble sleeping in my own bed as it was too comfy! Craziness! But settling down now though - getting back into the swing of things! Job hunting soon though - joy of all joys! Anywho, I'm off now! Not for the last time though as I have a really cool last blog entry to finish! I have compiled a summary of all the things we have achieved/done, interesting food/drank consumed, and nationalities of friends we now have! So keep watching this space! Hope you enjoyed the piccis by the way!Love Bekki & Dan
