Hey people! Time fro an update! So let's see! We're here in Port Douglas just north of Cairns! In the tropics now!!! I'm currently sat at Tim's laptop, slightly sunburnt on a campsite in the middle of rainforest! It's amazing here! Except the cane toads are massing! There are like 7 around me and they're all staring at me… any ways onto what we've done!
Right-not sure if we've already said in a previous blog but in Brisbane we went to the world famous Australia zoo! Home of Steve Irwin! And guess what, we fed elephants, pigs saw crocs-fed kangaroos the works! And then we sat down to dinner and in the corner of my eye I saw her… Terri Irwin! I was so excited I went and asked for a photo! But got shunted away her body guard who just said "NO PICTURES TERRI IS EATING LUNCH" which was bloody stupid because she was walking around and I saw no sandwiches! Any ways was a pretty cool day!!! Spent the evening having a massive chilli- not quite as nice as yours Mama D but it came close! I got a packet of mince-did the whole thing from scratch! No tinned malarkey for us! Then just chatted with these guys from England. Fun fun!
After campervaning it all the way to Cairns staying in different camp sights along the way we arrived in Cairns central! BEAUTIFUL! Boiling! And full of tropical flora and fauna! Just gets better and better! Any ways! Went to the shopping mall got my hair cut finally! Woop! Goodbye mop! I am now 3kgs lighter! And in the evening we went to the lagoon and had a swim! Very nice!
Next day we had the single most terrifying moment in our lives!!! We actually went BUNGY JUMPING!!! Can you believe it?! Drove to this place in the middle (well not middle but in it anyway) of a rainforest. Taking a slight detour on the way as Tim took a wrong turning & we ended up going halfway up a mountain on a ridiculously windy road with no turning points - lol! Anywho, so we arrive at this bungy site & Tim & Dan buy the combo tickets (the bungy jump and the minjin - which is the swoop we did in rotorua a few weeks ago) but I (Bekki) only bought a ticket for the minjin as wasn't sure I would bungy (asked if I could upgrade it later though just in case I decided to bungy!). So we did the minjin thing first - Tim & Dan went together, then Tim & I went together!!! Not quite as nervous as for the first swoop but still seemed just as scary when up there!!! Dead fun though! Then we sat down to wait as it was lunchtime for the bungy staff! During this time I decided I would regret it too much if I didn't at least TRY to do the bungy - so I upgraded my ticket! Called up (finally) & had to walk up 50m's worth of stairs!!! Gradually getting slower & slower as we got higher & higher!!! Then we looked down!!! Sooo scary!!! We were all told basically what would happen & had to put on leg harnesses (like the ones for rock climbing & abseiling etc). And Dan was called out first!!! Poor guy! There again, I was hoping I would go first to give myself less time to think about it!!! But I went last!!! Never mind! They fitted him up with the bungy stuff - your legs have a TOWEL (very safe!!) put round them then they are clasped together really tight. Then I saw Dan sort of shuffle to the end of the platform (looking petrified) - 5,4,3,2,1…BUNGY (the guy called)…and off dived Dan!!!! Screamed all the way down!!! He enjoyed it though! Two other guys went next, then Tim! Who I didn't think was going to go! He is also afraid of heights and on the word 'BUNGY' he went to dive, then stood back up again! But he went the second time!!! I'm pretty sure the word 'F****************' came out of his mouth all the way down! Lol. Then the last other person did his bungy - and he dived BACKWARDS of the platform! Had already done one apparently so had the confidence to do it this way!!! Craziness! Then it was my turn!!! You CANNOT believe just how terrifying it is!!! The shuffle to the edge has to be the most scared I have EVER been or could EVER imagine being in my ENTIRE life!!!! So no laughing when you see my video!!! Cos I VERY almost don't jump!!! I shuffled halfway to the edge, then said no! So the guy said, just get to the edge to have a photo taken. So I did! Then I said no again! Then I got REALLY scared and kept saying 'I cant do it, I cant do it' & 'please don't push me'!!! But the guy was really nice about it and just told me to take a deep breath & look out at the horizon & that he wouldn't push me, I had to jump for myself! Then all of a sudden I kind of fall forward in a half somersault over the edge!!! Soooooo disorientating for the whole bungy! Not a sound escaped my lips (I think I was still in shock, lol) until I bounced back up!!! Then you kind of get thrown all over the place!!! SOOOOOO glad I did it but wouldn't do it again - not sure I could put myself through that fear all over again!!!! There is something not quite right about throwing yourself off a 50m high platform!!! Lol. Met up with Losemary (our South Korean friend) in the evening so spent the time chatting & catching up with her!!!
Next day (Tuesday) was great we sunbathed around our camp sights pool! We splashed out a bit more for a night to stay in a gorgeous campsight so decided to make the most of it! They even had these things called bouncing pillows! They are like trampoline material and are huge! And so bouncy! And huge! Like huge bouncy pillows! But I got a bit sunburned and now my face is peeling! I wanted to get savage! And savage I got! Woops! Any ways-evening was good-kangaroo salad! Yum yum!
The next day was really great. Went to a place called wjakapuky or sumink! Bex has just informed me it is Tjapukai… WOOPS! Really funny! It was a cultural Aboriginal village place-had all the dances and stuff! Boomerang throwing-medicine shows and didgeridoo playing-even painted our own boomerangs! Was a reet laugh and then made friends with an Aboriginal lad- he was all dressed up in his paints and grass skirt and he asked us where we were from-I said Plymouth and he said Oh WOW that's in Devonshire- I went to Totness last year! Beautiful place! I cracked up!!! Got his phone number and we might be going to Crystal Creek for a swim later on in the week. Then we drove to a desolate beach (Newell) picked a coconut and had fresh coconut milk! Beauty!
Next day was great also! I'm beginning to see a pattern here!!! We went to a place called Mossman gorge. This is a nature reserve-we had a walk in the rain forest and Tim and I went for a swim in the creek there! So pretty! In the evening we went for some food and then had a skinsathon! Good times! Or not actually! I can't believe what happening to those guys! Cass-why the hell are you in NY???
After a scary night of rats eating our left over sausage casserole and Tim snoring really loudly and making me want to cry-we all had a Daintree crocodile river experience! Very exciting as I'm sure you'll agree! Had a river cruise and a guided walk through the mangrove and rainforest before setting sail on the Daintree river train-saw some wild crocs!! Beautiful creatures! Then we had a walk on beach-practically no one on it! Beauty! In the evening we had Mexican food and then a little later on we all headed to the beach… it was pitch black not a soul in sight-and the stars were so bright! I've never seen a sky like it! We built a camp fire and listened to tunes and the waves of the Pacific Ocean as we star-gazed the night away-how romantic! Beauty!
And that brings us to today! And what a day it was! We went Sea Kayaking! It was really good! Went all the way round the headland of Cape Tribulation on the crystal blue waters-stopped off at our own private beach-had some pawpaw-picked a wild coconut and had Anzac cookies and juice on the beach! It was really nice! After this Bex and Tim went for a canopy walk (it was gorgeous by the way!!! The views from up above the canopy are AMAZING!!) -I stayed and read in the campervan and read. Had some really nice Daintree Ice-cream in the afternoon and drove to our camp sight-somewhere with a wi-fi connection so we could communicate with all you lovely people and we've just been told of for being too noisy! So I'm gonna go to bed! I'm ouda here y'all-PEACE!
Missin you all!
Bekki & Dan
