So, have just spent the past three weeks travelling aroung Morocco. Not huge amounts to report really. We started off in a town called Tangier which was where we arrived having just taken the ferry over from Spain. Within the first 30 minutes Damien encountered an unfortunate 'Kerb Moving' incident which meant he was unable to walk for a few days, we even toyed with the idea of going home but that was soon dismissed!
After spending a few days here we were both pretty fed up as it really was just a port town so we consulted our Lonely Planet and decided we would head a couple of hours south into the mountains to a place called Chefchoeun where we could chill out for a few days whilst Damien recovered! It was such a beautiful town and a really good atmosphere so after 4 days we were quite sad to leave, especially when we arrived in Fes and found that most of the hotels were full or too expensive. In the end we had to settle for the hottest room ever! 12 quid a night whict is well expensive by our standards and was on the top floor, I actually don't think I've ever been so hot, we took the temperature and measured 38 degrees - I kid you not - horrible! A bit sight seeing and yet more Tagine (its a really popular Moroccan dish and is a really nice stew but after about 15 its really does loose its appeal!) and we could take the heat no longer. Next stop - Casablanca!!!
Casablanca was exactly what you would expect from any big city - Noisy, smelly and a bit intimidating! This aside after finding somewhere to stay and went for a bit of a wander, discovering on our way that it was the Casablanca Festival and that Shaggy would be playing the next day - result, no one can complain about free comedy!!! Turned up on the Saturday to find that we really were the only westerners there, actually very suprising how popular Shaggy seems to be here, he only did 2 songs didn't he? Anyway after all the build up it turned out that it Shaggy wasn't going to turn up (quelle suprise!!) but instead they'd found Arrested Development from somewhere (Mr Wendall, Everyday People!!) soturned out to be a pretty good night - and out latest so far, we were actually up after midnight!!!
From Casablanca we travelled to a town called Safi for a night and then on to Essouira for a few days were yet again we appeared to have timed it right and got there just in time for the World Kite Surfing Championships so the town was pretty busy!! We decided to try our hand at surfing (I wasn't quite the natural I thought I'd be - I have to admit this as I did nearly knock myself out within the 1st half hour!), which although was very hard work we will definately try again if we have the chance.
Next stop, Marrakech were we stayed a night before heading off on a two day trek into the dessert!! A couple of Camel rides and a night under the stars in the Sahara later and we were abck to Marrakech for our last day before heading off for Egypt!!!
