So, the exciting day has finally come. The sun is shining (a little), the trees have blossomed (well, at least one tree has) - it's moving day!! We are extremely happy to be starting our next chapter and moving into our beautiful new apartment. Our period with the Spanish family has definitely been a positive one - an opportunity for us to improve our Spanish, a real taste of Spanish life, just enough time to get hooked on Spain's answer to Wheel of Fortune - but we are happy to have a bit more of our own space and control over when and what we eat.
Of course, typical Rose and Alexi, leaving wasn't without its hitches. After we had happily set off to get the bus, rucksacks and backpacks eagerly packed, we got into the lift of the family's apartment and of course....it broke and we were trapped. We tried everything (including shouting "AYUDAANOOSS" out of the crack of the bottom of the door) but we were there for a good 40 minutes. Accompanied only by the family's very sweet and panicked neighbour Mari Jose who was constantly checking we were okay, the maintenance man tried to prise the door open with his bare hands - as did Rose. Eventually we were freed by a young strapping Spaniard and could finally be on our way. Our new apartment will be shared with a really lovely couple we were lucky enough to meet by chance - British Ollie and American Dani. Tonight will be our first meal together as housemates for the next five months! (At this point mine and Rose's only regret is that it will only be for 5 months).
As for the last three weeks, we have been working a lot and unfortunately not being able to go out too much during our free time as not only have we lived in quite a residential area just outside the centre, the weather also has been a bit cold. A lot of time looking out the window willing and wishing the sun to come out has been spent. Adjusting to the very late schedule for just about everything has been interesting. My new boss invited us to the cinema the other night (a casual 10:30 showing). Of course, more typical Alexi and Rose, we got lost not knowing our address and wondered around at 3am in the freezing cold for an hour until we found a pair of Chinese/Peruvian lovers to guide us back to our house.
We've both been really enjoying our jobs and working with the little ones has been a new experience for both of us. Rose has just started working with me with at the nursery and as part of her training we will be teaching The Very Hungry Caterpillar together next Saturday which we are very much looking forward to!
That's all for now, the champagne is calling!!
