Hi all,
Well here I am in Thailand, made it in one piece! (although the bugs don't seem to want it that way and are eating me alive!!!)
Arrived in Bangkok Thursday eve after a 13 hour flight feeling rather jaded (it was 5am NZ time when I arrived!) and was very confused!
Ended up jumping in a cab and getting ripped off! (They saw me coming a mile off, English girl on her own in the middle of the night!) But I got there eventually, after the cab driver dropped me off and pointed me in the wrong direction so walked for ages with all my stuff up and down a busy road! After a few tears I plucked up the courage to ask someone for directions and they didn't know but found out for me! Phew!
I was then a little scared of Bangkok so hibenated in hotel room the next day to get over jet lag!
The following day I met 3 lovely English people who were new to the travelling thing and so looked to me for advice! (?) and had a couple of nights out with them and also decided to attempt a market! My god, it was so hot and busy and smelt really bad, was an experience anyway! Ended up going to sit in an a/c restaurant to cool off!
We also had some funny experiences with tuk tuk and taxi drivers!!! Don't ever let them take you anywhere except where you want to go as we ended up stranded after arguing with tuk tuk driver when he took us to a jewellery shop!
The others left and mum and dad arrived the next day. Met them at the grand palace and had a wander in the heat before finally giving up and going for a swim in their hotel pool!!!
The following day we tried to find some markets/ go on floating market but ended up finded a mall where mum got excited cos they had mango and zara but we found that it was more expensive that at home!!! Again we ended up by the pool.
Then we flew to Chiang Mai and saw some more temples (Wat) and managed to go to the night market where I spent about 5 pounds on a bag and some other bits!
Today Mum and Dad stayed at their hotel (it is 60km outside of Chiang Mai and in the middle of the rainforest-it is stunning and as mum says if it is good enough for Angelina Jolie then it is good enough for her!)
I decided to go into the jungle on a trek where I went to some hilltribe villages and saw the local people making crafts and rode an elephant and went bamboo rafting!
It was such a good day, the bamboo rafting was so much fun, it is like a punt made of bamboo and there is a man standing on the front with a stick and I was on the back with a stick. There were rapids and so of course we got stuck on some rocks and couldn't keep my balance so I fell off!!! Hehe. Luckily it was hot so I didn't mind and I dried off pretty quickly! Unfortunately no pictures though as I didn't take my camera (thank god)!
I have jumped out of a plane but Bangkok is the scariest experience that I have had, whether travelling by taxi, tuk tuk or walking you are always close to death as they drive like maniacs, don't have proper crossings and don't stop for pedestrations!!! Definately an experience!!!
In Chiang Mai for one more day/night and then back to Bangkok briefly before flying to Krabi and the luxury beach resort where Lucy will join us! Bliss.
Right well I better go back to my 3 pound a night hotel room where the shower is over the toilet! This place is soooo cheap!!!
See you all soon (just over a month now!)
Lots of love
