Hi everyone
Seems like ages since I made any entry as we have done so much! Just a warning that this may be another fairly long one!!!
We left Darwin very early hours of the morning, decided to go to the local nightclub which meant no sleep before getting the bus and then plane to Cairns, all I can say is thank god we flew and it only took 2 hours as the journey would have taken days by bus!
Arrived in Cairns and couldnt check into the room until the afternoon so explored Cairns a little then back to the hostel and straight to sleep! Then that night we ended up having a very late night as we met some aussie army guys in the bar who convinced us to go to the Woolshed for some table dancing (wasn't sure what this entailed at first but there were no naked ladies just people dancing on the tales) so we joined in- it would have been rude not to and stayed until they kicked us out at 5am!
We stayed in Cairns for 5/6 days as we were waiting for Hannah to arrive. We decided to stay in "the ritz" of hostels as Hannah would have just arrived from a long trip! This was a slight expensive as we were paying $27 per night instead of $21, about 10-11 pound a night instead of 8-9 pounds! We hired a "beast" of a car, in oz they like there big engines because of the long distances to travel between places- Freya was loving the 3 litre engine and thought that she was James Bond!!! This wasa little different from the car u see above which was definately not 3 litres!!!! We went to Cape Tribulation and Mossman Gorge in Daintree National Park (Yes another National Park!! Think we count 5 so far!) Cape Tribulation is a rainforest but it is surrounded by the sea, reefs and beaches it is strange! Mossman Gorge was waterfalls in the rocks which we stopped off at to have a swim and cool down! Then we headed to Port Douglas which we were excited about as Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson were filming there, but obviously we didn;t spot them and the place was tiny and there wasn't much there!
We also went on a day trip to the Great Barrier reef, I went snorkelling and the girls went scuba diving as they are qualified! It was fantastic, they took us to a shallow area where u could see everything really clearly as it was so close and it was so colourful and there were so many different types of fish and coral!
Then we jumped on the dreaded Greyhound bus to Mission Beach whch luckily was only a few hours (unlike some others that we will be doing!) Hannah did a skydive onto the beach which me and Freya watched, there is not much else to do there and we left the next day as we are on a tight schedule!
Back on the bus to Townsville/Magnetic Island, w didn't stop in Townville as it isn't very nice just a town and got the ferry straight to Magnetic Island! This place was very quiet but we managed to liven things up with the help of some ozzie RAF guys that we met in the bar. The next day we decided to explore the Island and hired the little car seen above, it was so funny (I'm sure that I had a Barbie car that looked something like that!) We also missed the Koala Santuary which I'm upset about but apparently u can hold them at Australia zoo where we will head next week!
We are currently in Airlie beach and are just relaxing waiting to go on the boat cruise to the Whitsundays on a 3 day cruise tomorrow which should be good- have got my supplies of ginger tablets for seasickness! We should also get the chance to do some more snorkelling which will be good too!
Well I better go!
Will try and put some more photos up soon, there are some in the Queensland folder but I will add to it!
Cu all soon,
Love Becks xxxx
