Days 5,6 and 7:
So on te friday I took the baz bus from Jo'Burg down to Northern Drakensburg where I stayed at the Ampitheatre back packers! This back packers was so nice and is in such a beautiful and remote location. I met some people on the way via the baz bus and so when we all arrived we just chilled out by the pool, went for a swim and then had dinner together, margaritas in the jacuzzi then we hit the sack as the next day was going to be a looong one! I stayed in a 8 bedded dorm, with 7 international students who were from all over Europe and were studying in Durban.
On Saturday, I got up, showered and was sitting ready for breakfast at 6.45. Yes i actually was up and ready to go at this time in the morning. Believe me I was impressed with myself! So i had my tea and toastie and then we in two shuttles departed the hostel at 7.30 ready to see the ampitheatre from the mountains in the Royal Natal National Park, Kwazulu Natal. I then embarked on a seriously intense trek up the mountains of Tugela Falls. Tugela Falls is the secong highest waterfall in the world at a height of 3,110ft. This was part of my prep for everest! The trek we did was up and round the mountains until we reached the top of the falls. We trekked for over 6 hours including a 90'o angle rock climb of 250 metres. This was intense! I genuinely thought my heart was gonna stop at one point, haha! Anyway once we did it, it was such an achievement. We sat on the top of the mountains which went to 3,180ft and had our lunch, before from here we hiked to the falls. When we got there we drank from the springs and had a paddle in the falls befoe trekking back down the mountain. However as part of out trek we had to climb down 2 chain ladders totalling 40m down the mountains whilst the weather decided to take a turn and hail and completely piss it down! We climbed down the ladders with no safety harness or anything. if we fell we were dead. From here we trekked back down and round the other side of the mountains on our way encountering a pack of baboons climbing the mountains. They kept stopping and just looking at us, so cute! We also had to climb over the summit, which was the thinnest pathway of just rocks directly next to a nice long death drop, scary but what what a rush this day was! It was amazing. The views of the ampitheatre were stunning!
We all then returned to the hostel eat salad, steak and chips and followed by a nice few ciders and white russians whilst cooling off and chatting with all the guys from the tour. My muscles still ache! That night when i went to go have a shower and go to bed, i came out of the bathroom to a load of screaming international girls. We had bats flying around our room! So funny as we had bunk neds so the people in the top bunks were just constantly yelping because they thought they were gonna get attacked in there sleep. Was so funny! Good day all in all.
Day 7, I wke up early again had breakfast with everyone and then jumped back onto the baz bus which then took me to Durban. I met a girl on there from Holland who was so cool, her name was Dionne and she was 26. We decided to stay together in the same hostel, Happy Hippo, and went out together to the beach, had a swim and dinner on the seafront followed by a cheeky mango daiquri and then the taste of alcohol flowing through our bodies making us drink a few more then decide that we were gonna go out clubbing! So funny, we went back to the dorms, got ready and then knocked on a load of other dorms to see if people wanted to join. Eventually we hit the hostels bar and persuaded the barman 'Pops', a Swedish guy called Ed and a South African guy called Lee to join us on a night out. We went to a place called Jay Kools and danced our little socks off. We didnt get in till 4 and the next morning i had to be up at 6.30 to catch the baz bus again. GOOOOOOOOOD! Was a brill night though.
