I can't believe I am finally writing an entry about another country! Don't get me wrong, we had a blast being creative on our road trips over the past couple of years, but it felt amazing to be in Mexico!
Day 1 is a short entry and it really just entails the flight there and arriving at our hotel. Our flight left LA mid-morning and we arrive in PV a little after 3pm. The flight is super short. A tad bit longer than the duration from home to Seattle, a trip I have done many times, so the flight was a breeze.
One little annoyance arriving in PV, though. I usually carry a pen with me, but when I switched my stuff over to my travel purse, I did not include a pen. When passing out the immigration form to enter Mexico, the flight attendants only had a small amount of pens (Im assuming they didnt pass out pens to share because of COVID). Well, since it had been so long since we even had to fill out such a form, I forgot to fill out the bottom, and had no pen to do so before leaving the plane. We asked the airline worker about it when we got into the airport, and she said there would be plenty of pens at the tables when we got to customs. Well, risidual precautions from COVID, I guess but there was not a pen to be found! The line was not too long, so when we got to the border patrol agent, we asked if we could use his pen real quick, but he said since our form was not complete, we had to get out of line to fill out that last portion (which was like 3 lines, very short). So we did, but there were no pens! And at that point, it must have been 2 or 3 flights full of people were coming through and making the line incredibly long. So I got back into line while Jaime tried to find a pen, and the flight attendants from our flight got behind us, and I was able to borrow the same pen from our same flight attendant from our plane. Phew. I will tell you now, I will never forget to travel without a pen again. In fact, I already putt a pen in my travel purse for next time.
We had breakfast at the airport and snacks on the plane, but by the time we got to our hotel, we were pretty hungy. In fact, HANGRY would be a more accurate description. So when all was said and done we got to our hotel right around dinner time and were excited to go to the buffet before even going to our room so we could fill our bellies.
We checked in right as the National Anthem for the Super Bowl was being sung, and as we got our room key we asked to be pointed in the direction of the buffet. The hotel employee said all the restaurants were closed because of the Super Bowl. We were like, um, ok. Where can we get food. And he said there was food down at the Super Bowl party. Well, being tired, hot, irratable, and HANGRY like you would not believe, we both were a little frustrated beacuse neither of us had any interest in the game, and just wanted dinner somehow. So we asked if room service was still available, and he said yes, but it would take a while because of the Super Bowl. We were like ok, whatever let's just go down there.
So, long story short, the Super Bowl set up was INSANE. It was a buffet with desserts, snacks, corn on the cob station, hot foods, and grilled meats, and basically anything you could imagine. In our minds, we were thinking the worker just meant there were "snacks" at the game. But the reason all the restaurants were closed was because literally every worker was there making the Super Bowl Party so fun! They were dressed as referees, cheerleaders, and football players, had a huge TV set up, and servers were coming around giving you whatever drink you wanted. It was very cool. And we were both happy to get some food which immediately changed our mood. They even had football themeed desserts, a cake with the team helmets, and a snack station of popcorn, chips, and nuts. Needless to say, despite our attitude, and not understanding the meaning of food at the "Super Bowl Party" we were very impressed with our first evening.
So we had been at our resort for some time and hadn't even made it up to our room yet. So after we ate, we finally went up to our room and got there right as the sun was setting, so had an amazing view from our balcony. Our balcony which had a jacuzzi on it, so we immediately filled that up and watched the rest of the Super Bowl from the jacuzzi after enjoying the sunset. Our room was also equipped with a stocked mini bar. And because it was all-inclusive and because we could, we ended the night by ordering room service.
Everything is learning processs navigating the different protocols and guidelines after not being able to travel for so long. But even after the minor inconveniences, all was well, and we truly were in the mindset of just being so grateful that we could travel again and enjoy the benefits of an all-inclusive resort.
