One skydive later and I am still alive! And....it was sooooooooooooooooooooooo goood! We were so lucky to be able to do it as well because we called them up in the morning and because of the clouds they told us that it had been cancelled and we would have to wait till later, and fortunately the sun came out! We got all kitted up in our gear making us all look like mechanics and it wasn't long before we were on the tiniest pink plane I have ever seen!! The ride up was probably scarier than the actual jump! There were only four of us in it and it was pretty cosy in there! 15,000ft up in the air and I didn't actually feel too nervous (after doing the bunge!). So we jumped and I really cannot describe to you on here how good it was! We freefell for over a minute and then the parachute came out (thank goodness!). The view over lake taupo (new zealands largest lake) was stunning!! I could totally do another one! I highly reccomend them to any of you adrenaline junkies!
We also got to do some kayaking on lake taupo whilst we were there which was pretty cool but not as thrilling as the skydive!
After Taupo, it was only an hour's drive to our next stop....the smelliest town in New Zealand-Rotarua. It seriously stinks of rotten eggs because it is renowned for its geothermal activity here. We are staying in the coolest hostel...its desinged with a western theme to it with huge cactus' outside and the dorm is decked out like a jail!
Today, we checked out a park in the town centre which has boiling hot pools and some very cool mud pools. Everywhere you look there is steam coming from the ground...crazy! We also got to indulge in a very relaxing mud bath. It was soooo nice! Afterwards, I visited a very cool (or hot!) thermal Maori village. It was a village built by the maoris on top of lots of thermal activity on a huge fault line. In amongst the houses there were lots of steaming hot pools, and the best attraction...the pohutu geyser, whcih is apparently the 8th wonder of the world. Its spurts up 20m into the air and is absolutely immense to watch! Thermal activity being the main attraction of this town means that our hostel also has it's own hot tub...it's great!! We have on more day here before going up to Aukland, our final stop in New Zealand (very sad) so will let you know of more goings on then. Take care guys!!
