Well well well, it's been a while since I've updated this, I was fresh off my Glacier hike last time, that seems ages ago now! I've done so much in the mean time!
I did go rafting in Queenstown, that was so funny, we almost flipped our raft, but our super guide Steve saved us, then like the hero that he is launched himself from the raft to save Laura who had fallen out on "aftershock rapid"! she looked like she loved it! We made it back alive, but pretty soggy, we felt a bit short changed that we didn't all fall in, so we jumped out and swam down a rapid instead. blooming freezing, but fun. I couldn't get back in the boat because I'd lost the use of all my limbs so had to be ungracefully dragged back into the boat in a pathetic heap! not my finest moment I'll admit.
Next on the agenda was Lake Tekapo, which is an absolute stunner, but can induce severe boredom if left there too long...the main saving grace was a stella round of mini golf played by myself and Laura. It took us about 3 times the usual time to get round the course, what with me having a habit of whacking my ball into the nearest bush and Laura straddling the church, it took us a lot longer than anticipated! We at least got out moneys worth. Laura left to head north and I wasted time in Tekapo, slowly fossilising, until the day came for the bus to rescue me and take me to Kaikoura...again.
On the bus I started talking to the legendary Sarah and Fay, two Yorkshire lasses on their way to kaikoura too, we quickly established that we had the same major interests..the pub, and so our friendship began! Kaikoura was still lovely the second time around, I visited more pubs this time and has a snooze on the beach, all pretty standard stuff. A lot of people went whale watching or swimming with seals and dolphins but the idea worried me slightly and I decided to give it a miss, I've heard too many horror stories about dolphins from The Mary's to get myself into that sort of pickle.
From Kaikoura I went North to The North Island! weee! The ferry was hell but Wellington was surprisingly lovely! really liked it there. I caught up with laura again and had a lovely time pottering about. ooh saw Black swan there too, thought I'd missed out on that at the cinema but turns out New Zealand is a bit behind Blighty and I managed to see it! loved it, brilliant film.
and so on from Windy Welly, I headed to Taupo and my impending doom. by this I mean a skydive! I knew I was going to do one there but had miss calculated my days and didn't realize that it was going to happen the next day! aaaaa! I jumped 15'000 ft from a bright pink plane over the beautiful lake Taupo, words really can't explain the feeling of falling from the sky, but I have a DVD and that pretty much lets you know how I'm feeling on the way down..AND I didn't swear! not like me at all. I didnt say much in fact apart from "this is incredible" over and over again. Sarah and Fay have just done theirs too, I wish I could laugh at their silly DVD's too, although no one is ever going to look and sound as daft as me in a DVD, I went all posh and talked much more than really needed.
After Taupo came the stench of Rotorua! by golly that is one stinky old place! The day I turned up was particually bad apparently, but still, no need! we went to a hot pool, which wasn't really very hot, then we sacked it off and went to the pub (as you can guess, I was with Sarah and Fay again). That was that, the next day we left the stinky city for Auckland! wooo!
I managed to blag myself on to the Bay of Islands trip, by basically being a child and telling the lady at the desk "all my friends have this pass, why can't I have it too?" ....and it worked! hehe! and I'm very glad it did, it was incredible! and so beautiful! Whilst there I did a day trip to the most northerly part of new Zealand and Planted a tree for little Isla Bean, we have the Coordinates so we can track it growing, and Maybe Isla can come and visit it herself when she is older!
I got on yet another plane yesterday and have landed myself in FIJI! and it's a little bit incredible from what I've seen so far! it's paradise! The hostel I'm in is great! It's costing me about 6quid a night and you can get a can of fanta for 30p! are you listening Aus and NZ?...30p?!
anyway, i'm off to get my FREE tropical breakfast and explore! ooooh I just got a kiss from a lovely Fijian Lady! everyone is SOOOO lovely!
I witnessed a fijian Man monkey climb a tree outside my hostel this morning, pulling off coconuts, and went into town and sat in on a traditional fijian welcoming, we drank what was basically muddy water, but is the Fijian traditional drink called Kava, which makes your tongue go numb! all in a days work of a traveling bum!
Love you all loads!
See you soon!
