After the night on the sleep train we arrived at Chiang Mai at 7am, we decided to go on a mountain bike tour south of Chiang Mai; I agreed as they promised me there would be no hills at all on the route! It was quite pleasant we mainly stuck to back streets and got out into the country side we looked at another temple (sorry I have completely forgotten all the names now - they start with Wat) then we went to the Leper Colony which is where they look after all the people that were disfigured or disabled from the disease - it was a little hard to understand the guide! Anyways they did all this handicraft to make money so I bought a couple of bits and bobs from there shop. We then stopped to see a kind of cremation place; this was slightly bizare as it seemed to just be just some waste land on the side of the road!!?? Apparently it was the poor peoples one. Then they fed us!
That afternoon we went temple hopping again and saw a few more temples, again I am struggling to remember what stood out about these compared to the others - all I can remember was that I got a bit car sick on the way so had to get them to stop and put me in the front (I was previously in the back of the pick up truck that has two benches in and a roof). There was also a few of the whole city from this location as it was built on the site where an elephant they released from the city died - nice!!
Chiang Mai also has an amazing night market which sold some really great stuff, cheap! Well not that cheap for me as I later found when I posted the bloody stuff home (it was a bit silly of me to buy something heavy!!).
We hired trek equipment from a trek shop - I didn't need to get much thanks to Santa Claus I was pretty well equipped! I just bought the tiger balm (they promised it would fix mymosquito bites - liers) and some mosquito repellent that worked pretty well considering it did not contain deet!
We went back to the hotel fairly early as it was an early start for the trekking adventure up to meet the Karen Hill tribe.
