Sawat-dii!
I jut wrote this journal entry and the webpage decided to lose instead of save it, so this one isnt going to be as good, or long im affraid!
we are now in thailand, but i left this last in byron bay. we stayed there an extra night in the end as julie was too ill to take the night bus. george and i met a guy, neil, who id met on our kiwi experience in NZ in our hostel. he was now travelling with anther guy, will, in a car up the coast and george and i went with them exploring for nice beaches outside byron bay. we found an amazing one which we had almost all to ourselves, if u dont count the nudists! we also explored the byron night life with them and found some really nice live music in a big outdoor bar which is apparently one of the top 5 in australia.
we then took our nigth bus to Sydney (Daddy, sidney????!! really?!) and had the pleasure of sitting behind a guy who took his shoes off, which smelt like somthing had died in them! we all went to sleep with clothing srayed with purfume round or faces like masks! on our first day we wlaked around and saw every big attraction! starting in darling harbour for breakfast with the sea gulls which swarmed for ur leftovers the second u stood up. then on to te harbour bridge, then the "historic" (atleast 150 years old!) area the rocks, then a ferry trip past all the sights to manly beach where a sea gull pooed on both julie and george! then back to the opera house, a walk through the botanical gardens which have thousands of giant bats sleeping in the trees! then walking back through town, past hyde park (!), down regents street (!!) and then oxford street (!!!!!!!!) back to th train station which could have been any in london (even the font and colouring of the signs was the same) to collect our bags, and then waited for our bus looking at big ben (well it may as well have been!)! Sydney is just like no other city ive seen before!!!!the next day we went to bondi beach and had lunch at a restaurant where the table was sunk into the centre of a bed which we sat on to eat! we (well george) then did some shopping in bondi before heading back to the city to have drinks in darling harbour and see all the lights. we also went to see the opera house lit up as we were told it was lit pink for breast cancer awareness month, but it wasnt, very dissapointed!
we stayed with juiles family friend kirstin and her husband martin who cooked us a really nice home made meal. kirstin also drove us up to plam beach on our last day, which is where home and away is filmed. sadly they werent filming on the beach that day, but george and i did a fabulous rendition of the theme tune (not sure how we still know the words) which we filmed on my camera while panning the scenery, which is almost the same!
we are now in bangkok. yesterday was our first day and we went to the grand palace first which is just as sparkly, shiny and amazing as i remember it. then we took a tuk tuk tour to the giant standing buddah, then the sitting buddah and golden mount and back to the grand palace. we didnt see the reclining buddah as it wasnt open while we were there and it was too hot to wait, plus we were a bit buddah-ed out by then. so we went to MKB, 7 floors of markets, shopping centre instead for a wander. we also saw a film there in the VIP screen with sofas and blankets.
Today we went to the sky hotel which is the tallest builing in bangkok for the amazing but hazy views and then to the emporium shopping centre where we couldnt affrd anything, but enjoyed the airconditioning for a couple of hours!
tonight we are going to patpong to see the lady-boys and tomorrow are going out of town to be up early for the floating markets. will tell u all about them soon x
ps i did put photos on in byron but they arent here for some reason, i will try again soon, probably on the island.
