Greetings from......many places!
Non stop travelling at the minute. After Kuala Lumpur we headed south again to the smaller town of Melaka. A beautiful little port town with a river running through the middle, quite sleepy in some parts of the older town, but tourism is getting bigger and some places are losing there identity. We stayed in Chinatown, which still feels authentic, in a small guest house run by a Malaysian couple. Very freindly and helpful, we felt right at home. We didn't do a huge amount here, just relaxed, ate and did some walking, taking in the sights. Our host did invite us to go to the local market with him which was great. We've been to plenty of local markets but to have someone who knew what everything was, was much better. We brought our dinner there, deep fried battered tofu stuffed with spicy veg, and nasi lemak which is chicken and rice with different spices, but very tasty. Washed down with guava juice. Breakfast was interesting as well, we had dim sum, which is a selection of different cooked meats, from deep fried pork of varying spicyness to chicken feet (we didn't try these!) and pork wrapped in some dumpling type dough. Nice, but far to rich for breakfast, my belly was abit noisy after that.
From sleepy towns to the grandest part of our trip. Singapore. Thanks to a tax rebate, bex had booked a treat of one night only in the Maderin Oriental!!!!!! i was expecting good things but this awesome!!
Bex now....
From the moment we walked in the door we were treated like royalty. The building was amazing and the interior was beautiful. I have never seen such luxury. When we were shown our room and Chris very skillfully slid the bell boy a 4 dollar tip in the thank you hand shake. Very well done if i do say so myself, and Chris looked very pleased with himself! We literally spent most of our time in Singapore in the hotel, soaking up the opulance...we swam in the pool taking in the Singapore skyline at night, drank cocktails, had bubble baths and watched DVD's with a bottle of bubbly!
We really wanted to try out one of the hotel's resturant's but the price tag was just to high. A steak would have set us back over 50 pounds each, and we would have had to have paid extra for vegetables and salad etc.... oh well, we made sure to REALLY make the most of our included breakfast in the morning. It was a.m.a.z.i.n.g! Every type of western /asain food you could image and all was delicious. 2 very happy / fat people for the rest of the day...We ate freshly made pancakes, fruit smoothies, fresh coffee, eggs, bacon etc, an indian sampler plate, and finished off with a fresh fruit platter. nom, nom, nom. Chris and i loved staying at the Manderin Oriental, the luxury was refreshing and we discussed how we really needed to win the lottery soon to be able to continue the trip in such comfort. Yes please!!
Dispite spending much of our short stay in Singapore in the hotel complex we did get a bit of sight seeing in and walked around part of the Singapore Grand Prix track which Chris was massively excited about. We walked past the starting grid and the pit straight as Chris kept trying to work out where the next part of the track went. It was actually quite interesting and i had my picture taken in front of some of the teams garages! (Specifically in front of my drivers garage's in this years fantasy F1) We also walked around the marina bay and looked at some of the other amazing hotels including the marina bay sands which is an architectural masterpiece. We also managed to visit Singapore Zoo which we were looking forward to but it wasn't as great as we had hoped. Many of the animals were in small enclosures and looked bored and unhappy. We did manage to do our good deed of the day by helping a squirming baby turtle flip up the right way :)
So, all in all, we loved our time in Singapore but wished we had planned to stay a few days longer. South East Asia has been even better than what we had hoped for but now it is time to move on and we have our next adventures to look forward in Sydney and New Zealand.
Stay tuned for the next parts of our adventure.
Lots of love
Becci and Chris xx

Helen I love the fact that you avoided the chickens feet and help a baby turtle! I was also very excited to see you went to Melaka - that's where my Dad's (not literally) second factory is!!!
