Italy welcomed us with open arms coming off a 10 hour transit to Rome. Our flight left Georgia at 1:30 PM on Tuesday and arrived in Rome at 8:30 AM on Wednesday. Nine hours in flight and an hour sitting on the tarmac waiting for fuel.
The seats seemed to be a tad more spacious than typical domestic flights. We were offered plenty of food. Dinner, snack and breakfast and four rounds of beverages. The seats all had their own 4x8 video screen for movies etc. We also entertained ourselves listening to Rick Steves, Italian audio tours on our IPhone and crossword puzzles. I don't sleep well on a plane and by association neither does poor Harry.
The airport was easy to navigate and Immigration was a breeze. I was disappointed that my passport stamp didn't scream Rome or Italy. Also, the airport in Rome is no frills compare to familiar Heartsfield. Mellow lighting and very limited advertisement and no art to speak of. All welcome coming off the red-eye.
We had a taxi service meet us at the airplort to deliver us to the vacation rental where we regrouped for the day ahead.
