Berlin, Germany
Today is our last day in Berlin. We've been here for 5 days, and while it's a cool city, we are definitely ready to move on to our next stop. There's a lot to do here, as far as shopping and eating goes, but when it comes to sightseeing, it's not like the other cities I've been to in the rest of Europe.
All the old historic buildings were bombed in the war, so Berlin is a pretty new city in comparison to the rest. Not much of the old stuff survived or was rebuilt, so we've seen all the sights.
My pork quest has been extremely successful; my goal was to eat pork every day, and somehow I've managed to include it in every meal! Pork knuckles are amazing! And to top it off, EVERYTHING in Germany is served with potatoes! So great!
It also took us a while to figure out the map. And for some reason, there is this little neighborhood near out hostel that has amazing little restaurants, bars and patios to dine in, and we have the hardest time finding it. We finally figured out how to get back to it, by walking all the way around a few blocks a down a couple more.... Until last night when we went on a pub crawl and the dude running it took us and it was literally across the street from our hostel. All that time we just needed to take a right instead of a left!...
We've met some cool people: two Norwegian guys Tom and Anders who taught me how to say bad things in Norwegian, a Scottish guy named Wilson who found it necessary to prove to us that he wasn't wearing underwear under his kilt, a guy named Pat from Nova Scotia who's currently taking a 12 day break from fighting in Afghanistan and a bunch of other random travelers.
Money wise, we have barely spent anything! It's so awesome! One day we got by with eating 3 times, getting a couple drinks and being out all day with only spending about $30!
Since it's our last day here and we are tired we are just staying in and relaxing after our crazy night out. We have some great little restaurants near us, like this yummmmmy kebab place we just walked to for lunch, and then a German place we will probably go for dinner. All our hostel roommates checked out so we've got the quiet place to ourselves which is a nice break, plus we know we will get good sleep before leaving to Prague tomorrow morning.
