Retired & Traveling
We woke up early and had to have our suitcases ready for pickup by 7:30 this morning. I walked down to our parking garage and switched out my ticket for a prepaid one without any problems. After a quick walk back to the hotel, I was ready for breakfast.
Kateva had snagged a table and we helped ourselves to a wonderful buffet. We had a couple hours to kill before our tour left, so we visited with other travelers while waiting.
The buses finally arrived and we boarded...our tour guide was okay--and we weren't able to tour the French Quarter due to the streets being closed because of the Jazz Festival.
We drove the streets of the Garden District and toured the areas most affected by Katrina. Lots of homes still boarded up and needing repair. We stopped for lunch at a hot dog place, Dat Dog, that was right across the street from our tour bus stop--wouldn't have been my first choice for cuisine but it was close and Kateva can't walk far or fast. We ate outside because it was an absolutely gorgeous day and I enjoyed my veggie dog. Still trying to stick to a vegetarian diet although it's getting tougher. haha
The weather has been pleasant so far although it's humid. Once the tour was over, we were able to board the boat and located our room. We have to go outside to enter the room--very strange! It's small but very nice and our steward, Adam, has been very helpful with all of our requests.
We are in the 5:15 dinner seating, so after muster we went down to dinner. Our table mates are a mother and son that are from the Georgetown area...he has a large handlebar mustache. If I can, I'll try to get a pic of him to post later. :)) we also invited a lady traveling by herself who is from California to join us. Dinner was marvelous! Lots of free wine...fresh fish and bread pudding for dessert. Obviously my vegetarian diet went by the wayside.
The boat set sail a few minutes after 9:00 and I got a nice pic of the bridge as we passed it. I was pooped not too long after and called it a night. Kateva had been asleep for a couple hours by then. :))

Chrissy Glad everyone is safe and sound. Was kind of worried about flood levels, but seems like the river is in good shape. Maybe just think of it like a mini boot-camp, that happens to have awesome food and sights on the side. So glad you were able to fill in for the trip. Cope girls take note on how to be a great daughter-in-law! Looking forward to some pics. Gig em!
Kit The room looks nice and like the picture of you and mom on the deck. The weather looks good too!
