Monday 25th February
It was emotional..our first real home on our travels & it was time to leave. Good memories, terrific friends (Jonny, jenny, Laura and Rach) & all the legendary Kuata staff.
Pre departing the island at 10.00am Kava loving Moses saw us off in spectacular fashion, splitting a coconut with raw brute strength..and a lil bit of Kava of course :P. The morning activities was coupled with samba football in the forever pouring rain…Gray and Casey smashed their head on the toilet doorway yet again (when was they going to learn?) This was closely followed by Betts being on his arse in a football showboat attempt.
We boarded the awesome adventures seeking our next destination Korovou. It was a cloudy rocky journey. It was later discovered that the sun was present in disguise. Having both Casey's and grays pants down in back alley fashion lol. Sunburninghell (see pictures for all the info). Korrovo was much more modern and provided the boys on tour with the portions of food they deserved..it felt like they where eating like Kings again!
The future & fortune of the boys was looking promising after the revolutionary discovery of the travelers multigym. 10,000 liters or a pool and u can hit every muscle group u can think of. If that's not enough for you try our Olympic pool 100m sprint for travelers…we guarantee you will hit exhaustion.
After a quiet but chilled afternoon/evening we sat down to finish the evening off with a few Fijian beers only to be joined by Moses the II. Only time will tell whether he will live up to the great name of his fellow brother…Moses of Kuata.Wednesday 27th FebruaryAfter breakfast Casey and Betts went off for a walk down the beach to take some pictures of Korovou in the sun. Gray, making sure not a spot of skin got anywhere near the sunlight, stayed and chatted to Moses, who it turns out is just as much of a legend as his namesake on Kuata. Moses manages to persuade Gray to leave his "this is my favourite t-shirt" t-shirt behind. The locals had been awfully impressed when the lads turned up wearing them to play rugby the day before. Casey comes back and does 25 lengths, Betts 50 and they eat lunch and chat to some of the girls. Moses sorts out seconds for the 3 greedy b*stards on the sly so no one else finds out. Have a chat to another Fijian we played rugby with, Peter, who offers us yet more lunch and is disappointed he didn't get a favourite t-shirt, but Betts and Casey have already packed them away.Another emotional goodbye and the boys embark on the voyage to their last Fijian island - Beachcomber, the party island (so it is said). They arrive to discover they have been put in a small dorm with 5 other guys instead of the 85 bed dorm that they had been promised and were looking forward to. There also seems to have been a strange virus that has wiped out all the women off the face of the island, as all of the 40 people sitting in the bar are male. Bit disappointed in what is supposed to be the most energetic and fun island, but determined not to let it slow them as they are supposed to be throwing a late bday bash for Gray, the boys buy some jugs of beer and relax. At dinner they are reunited with Laura and Rachel. Yet another game of ring of fire, this time with a couple of English lads along with the swiss guys from Kuata, ends prematurely due to arguments over the rules and is replaced by no nonsense drinking. None of the other occupants of the island seem to want to party, and it is only Gray, Betts and Casey on the dancefloor. An excellent, if a little messy night, end with all the boys falling asleep in the bar before dragging themselves to bed. Great way to celebrate a birthday.
Tuesday 26th February
Got up bright and early for our 7am beach workout. A jog up and down the beach was followed by shuttle runs and some circuit training. Quick freshen up and to the dining room for our buffet breakfast. Moses reminds us we promised our services for the 5pm game of touch rugby, it hadn't been forgotten. Casey makes a passing comment about how it has finally stopped raining and just as the last syllable exits his mouth the heavens open! 10 miuntes later however and the brief shower has passed, leaving the boys to enjoy their first full day of sun on a Fijian island. Finding it too hot to be laying around on sunloungers they take to the pool for some keepy uppy headers and faces (great game). Moses lets Gray put on his ipod over the pool soundsystem and the tunes start blaring out. In no time its lunch. Sit with our new Geordie friend who insists the best way to make money is to take a JCB to a cashmachine and then take the money to a casino to win some easy money on the roulette tables; he wins every time. He doesn't believe in sun cream so is glowing like a fluorescent red disco light. Back to the pool and loungers for the afternoon, always making sure to be careful with the suncream. Casey fell in love; but it was a very one way relationship. As with most of his courtships the other party was not aware at any point that it was occurring. Bill Withers provided the chill out sound track to relaxing mode before the big game, and afternoon tea with crunchies and peanuts provide the nutritional impetus that was desperately needed. The boys head down to the rugby pitch (which is just an open patch of grass) and after a few worrying minutes during which no one turns up, the locals start to arrive and join in. Samsun the first to arrive, a 17-year old from our resort, then the man himself Moses, followed by around 12 others. What ensues is the most outrageous game of touch rugby. One touch and possession changes hands, so the aim of the game is to keep the ball alive, leading to some outrageous passes and some slick moves. We are told more than 7 of the guys have had Fiji trials and one of them, Beli, is currently playing in Italy, and in a past life was a London Irish Centre. Probably the best game of touch rugby any of these brits are ever likely to play in. Back to Korovou for a quick shower and a long drink of water before dinner. Our feet in absolute tatters from the barefoot rugby and shoulders feeling the effects of the day in the sun. Casey and Betts are sore, but Gray is in a league of his own, glowing like a beacon! What a way to spend your birthday!! Quiet evening playing cards with Chris and our European friends - Presidents & a*******s followed by a bit of Tourettes. With Gray getting worse by the second (and the other two cruelly offering little sympathy) the lads retired for yet another early night.
