Thursday 28th February
First person to wake is Casey, breakfast has been missed. Wakes the other two up and they check out. Still have the whole day at Beachcomber so snorkels are rented and the boys jump on a free boat ride out into the coral. Absolutely amazing but over a bit quickly. All three wear a t-shirt to take away any risk of burning. As soon as the boat gets back in they all swim back out to the reef nearer the island. Probably see more fish there than where the boat took us. Big fish trying to eat little fish, nemo, coral….all sorts. Head back in for some lunch. Casey gets talking to two Swedish girls in the que for food, Shanna and Sofia, and they join us for the meal along with our new American friend Brian and Laura and Rachel. Brian is a nice bloke, been in New Zealand for 9 months and tells us if we do nothing else in Auckland, we have to have a burger from Burger Fuel. The best burger in the world he claims. We doubt the credibility of the comment but take it on board anyway. Conversation leads to when everyone is leaving and Shanna points out that we are actually leaving tomorrow, not the day after as we had previously thought. Good job we met her or we could have ended up with a missed flight and all sorts of bother. After lunch we go back out into the reef for probably the best snorkel yet, absolutely amazing!! The day flies by and too soon the boys are leaving another home. The partying was a little disappointing but the snorkeling totally rectifies the visit! Sad saying bye to Rachel and Laura, our best friends yet, and we promise to visit them in Sunderland. Uneventful boat ride back to the mainland and back to the Skylodge hostel that we stayed in before. Order the catch of the day for dinner from our old friend Sanna, have another milkshake and head to bed. Can't book a hostel for Auckland as the internet is down so we'll just have to be adventurous and turn up to a new country with absolutely no plan and nowhere to stay.
