Well, that was fun. We decided to leave later in the morning to try to avoid the commuter traffic, which we did. Of course, there were still so many cars and trucks, I never saw the road bed. There were times that I almost got to see it right in front of me, but before I could get a good glimpse, a low-riding ’78 Datsun with a bumper sticker that said, “My other car is a doobie,” would dart in to fill the gap.
I know it was there, though, because I hit every pot hole and crack in the road. The roads have been pretty bad the last few days. The RV was rattling so badly the other day that I lost a wheel cover. True story. The rear wheel on the driver’s side now looks like a refugee from a wrecking yard. At one point today I looked over and saw an empty passenger seat. I figured Barbara had been bounced out the window. I was just about to turn around and go look for her, when I heard her. She was sitting at the table in the back doing a crossword puzzle and yelling, “What’s a four letter word for dummy?” I yelled back, “B-I-L-L.”
We made it to Paso Robles, and we’ll be here for two nights. There are vineyard tours available, and Barbara and I will take one tomorrow. It’s supposed to last about four hours, so we figured we’d stay ‘til Thursday to sleep it off.

marge looks like you'll get back just in time to see the fancier trees turning red around here. Good to have you back.
