Ok finally taken a break from the pub scene to make a blog....
Have just spent the last 3 and a bit weeks in the South West of Ireland. I had many a ''quiet'' night out. A quiet night out in Clon, could mean that you don't get home until the following day! A few nights were spent up in Cork city frequenting the night clubs and pubs, for many a drink and lots of dancing (by dancing I mean a true pirate jig). Drinking and being merry.... time well spent by any pirate. I have fitted in very well with the Irish.
On a few occasions I did stop drinking long enough to visit some of the tourist sites. Blarney Castle being one of the highlights. A 600 year old run down castle and home of the famous Blarney Stone, which when kissed is said to give the ''gift of the gab''. No one told me that it was 6 floors off the ground and that you have to lie on you back, lean out on a 45 degree angle backward and then kiss this stone on the outside of the castle!!! I am embarrassed to say that I did not complete the task..... Pirates aren't used to be up so high! I also toured the castle grounds and the surrounding caverns and passageways. So low that a normal person would have to almost crawl, but i had no problem with height. They were wet, dark and very muddy and my two travel companions did get covered in quite a lot of mud but i remained perfectly clean!!
Took some time out to visit the beach as well. Inchydoney beach is fantastic! Spent some time on the dunes, rock pools and making sand forts. Sadly the weather did not permit a swim. I picked the worst possible day to visit, gale force winds and sporadic showers which were the precursor to the worst storm to hit the west of Ireland in a long time. The power was out to Town for 5-6 hours but wouldn't you know it the pubs stayed open. One pub even served drinks by candle light!!! Hahaha.....Only in Ireland. The weather is only getting worse... last night there was a tiny bit of snow. Tonight there might be a bit more. So hopefully will see snow before I leave.
Also visited the model railway village, not sure why its called a miniature village all the buildings seemed to be in proportion.... for me anyway!
I have also been privy to some new ''exotic'' foods.
1. Meanies. The greatest crisps ever! Who knew that pickled onion flavoured crisps would taste so great.
2. Crisp Sandwich. Buttered bread and a packed of crisps.... the best lunch ever!
3. Car Bombs.... 1 shot Whiskey, topped off with Baileys dropped into half a pint of Guiness and downed like a Jager bomb. Tastes like chocolate milk!
Anyways off to Rome tomorrow and going out for one last drink tonight
Until next time me hearties
