Greetings and Salutations.
Thursday morning got off to a great start when at 6.30am the Mosque that was located directly behind our guesthouse woke us up and asked us to go to pray, this carried on for about half an hour and this happened everymorning after as well. After managing to get back to sleep we made an executive decision to have a relaxing day and be free from the hustle and bussle of city life. So we walked across the road and headed down onto the beach to make a start on the tan and to dip ours toes in the Ocean. At night we headed down Batu's long stetch of quality market stalls to check out the goods on offer, to our delight they had more fake goods. We then ended up at a place called Long Beach were they sold our favourite thing...food! This place is amazing, you find a table and then you go to the different hawker stalls who specialise in there own delicases, like louises favourite Tandoori Chicken and my favourite Spring Rolls, although not sure what was in them?!?! This is therefore where we ate for the next 3 nights. Did I forget to mention this place is very cheap!
Friday we decided to do the tourist thing and venture away from the beach and head into Georgetown the main city of Penang. Here we went up a small hill to see the largest temple in Malaysia and then we walked over to Penang Hill to get the train/cable car up to the top of the Hill which is the highest in Penang. Looked at some great views and to our surprise there were more shops up there. On the way back we shared a taxi with some Russians and we had the scariest Chinese driver in the world. Hair pin bends at ninety, using the motorcycle lane to overtake other cars and other things which are too scary to recall! Whoever gave malaysians cars maybe should think about taking them back off them!
Yesterday (Saturday) we headed back towards town and checked out one of the longest recining Buddhas in Malaysia/world but it was too hot to hang around and so we headed back to the guesthouse sharpish to chill out and head back to the beach for an hour/until the sun disappeared behind the clouds. After tea we cheked out the bar across the road and chilled with a beer and the sand between our toes. We then were treated to a bit of inhouse entertainment involving a girl, some fire on chains and the black eyed peas, who then went on to nearly set a guys hair on fire, most entertaining part, thankgod we were at a distance.
In conclusion to our tour of Penang, Penang is a gorgeous Island and one I think both of us would return to, but it is becoming so commercialised that it would be better to visit now.
So that brings us to the end of our time in Malaysia. Its been wonderful and the whole place is amazing. This morning we woke up nice and early to get the bus up to Krabi which took us around about 10 hours to get to, only to realise we have been teleported into Benidorm, but thats for another journal.
Ciao for now
