I'm in Boston!!!! Yay, I've always wanted to come here. I drove for ten hours today and after sitting in stop and go traffic throughout pretty much the ENTIRE state of Connecticut there was a lot I wanted to say, but I don't remember it because I'm in Boston!! (You think this is bad...when I passed NYC I called my parents to leave a message with me pretty much screaming I see New York, I see New York!! Sorry Dad and Rita, but that's part of unconditional love!) :) Anyway, it took forever and ever to get here, but since I've never been in this area it was really cool to see signs to places I've heard of. I really liked New Haven, Connecticut...well I liked what I saw from the freeway anyway. I got to Boston around 7 and drove around to every parking place within a mile of the hostel. The hostel is downtown and pretty much in the thick of things so all of the parking lots were full. I figured that the (hopefully) cheapest and safest thing to do would be to park in the economy lot at the airport and take a cab here, so that's what I had to do. I couldn't believe that there was no parking anywhere, but this place was really packed. There's a street nearby...can't remember the name and it has tons and tons of stores and restaurants. I'm hoping to go back tomorrow night. I was going to go to Salem tomorrow, but I've decided to skip that in order to have two full days in Boston cause there's too much I want to see. The hostel here is huge and a lot different than the DC one...way bigger for one, and there are private bathrooms here, which I now consider a luxury after the DC shared bathrooms. Anyway, I planned on exploring a bit, but I am so tired that I am stumbling into stuff...I look like I'm drunk. I have no problem making a fool of myself, but I'm not in the mood to get robbed. So I went to the cute little street and found a book store with a restaurant in it and got my first real meal. In DC there weren't any cheap places near the hostel, so I mostly ate fast food (yuck) and overly priced gross tasting food at the tourist spots (double yuck), so I was very excited to have a real meal. I went way way over my budget today (for anyone who is wondering the tolls from DC to Boston will run you about $30, and no I hadn't budgeted that!), but my plan is to deal with my maxed out cards when I get home. That is, after all, why I work all the time. Have fun now, pay and work later! :) I've done the trip from Northern California to Southern California numerous times and they have signs telling you what gas stations and places to eat are at what stop. There were some of those today but most of the rest stops (especially in Maryland and Delaware) put everything all under one roof. You go inside and they have a Starbucks (essential for road trips), bathroom (most of them were really clean), various fast food places, and some brochures on the area. I like that method much more cause it's all there in one place, and you don't have to drive on any streets...it has it's own entrance and exit, so when you're exhausted you don't have to try to remember how to get back to the freeway. Since all I did was drive today the pictures I took were pretty random. I know you probably don't care about random pictures, but this is my blog and I feel like posting random pictures ;) Now it's off to bed, although I don't think I'll get too much sleep cause I'm too excited to see Boston. I'm sure I'll have tons and tons of pictures to post tomorrow. Good night!
