Off Exploring
This morning we didn't dock in Jamaica until 10:30. We just took it pretty easy this morning and got breakfast at Johnny Rockets. It’s free breakfast there. They have a very limited menu, but I liked the food. We didn’t have anything planned in Jamaica so we found the taxi stand and split a taxi with some other guests to go to a beach at Montego Bay. We agreed to be picked up at 3 PM. When we got there we were bored pretty fast. It was a very small beach with a restaurant. We didn’t really want to lounge around on the beach for 3 hours so we set out exploring. Luckily we were on the "hip strip" which has some restaurants and gift shops. We went to Margaritaville where I finally got a strawberry margarita (the ship doesn’t have one!) and shared an appetizer. We looked in some stores and I got to practice my haggling skills. I found a ring for $285 and ended up paying $100 for it, which I was happy with. We also bought a small bag of Blue Mountain Coffee which is apparently some of the strongest coffee in the world. I can’t wait to try it out when we get home. I bought a straw hat because I’ve been jealous of all the women who have cute hats to keep the sun off their face.
Once we left the beach we had a lot of fun. Our taxi driver came to pick us up a little after 3 and we walked around the shops at the cruise terminal. Montego Bay was about a thirty minute drive from Falmouth and I’m glad we went because we saw a lot more of Jamaica on the drive over than we would have if we had just walked around. Jamaica definitely grew on me and I wouldn’t mind coming back some day.
For dinner we decided to skip my time dining and tried Seafood Shack. I had been avoiding it because reviews said that it’s all fried food and not that good. A lot of their menu is fried food, but not all of it. The prices are pretty good. We got a bowl of clam chowder in a bread bowl for $2.95. It was watery but hearty and pretty good. We definitely liked Seafood Shack and might go back.
This evening we saw the water show at the aqua theater. I forget the name but we both liked it a lot. It was our favorite show. It features some synchronized swimming and high diving. The diving was very impressive as was the stuff they did on the trampoline. I didn’t bring my camera because all of this happened somewhat spontaneously and I didn’t know I would have so much to take pictures of. We definitely recommend the aqua show.
