After about a 13 hour trip we finally made it to Dubai International Airport. It was 4am when we landed and we weren't able to check into our hotel until 2pm so we decided to take a nap in the airport before finally setting off.
Around 7.30am we wondered out of the airport and then spent the next 30 minutes discussing our method of transport to the hotel, eventually we came up with the cheapest option which was the Dubai Metro system :) Unknowingly we walked onto the women only section of the train and I was quickly told to move into the other side of the carriage!
Little did we know that in Dubai women and men are separated on public transport. Verrrryyy interesting. Not quite sure on the reason yet, but shall let u know when we find out.
After the train we got on the bus to Ajman, which is where our hotel was located. 15 minutes.... 30 minutes..... 45 minutes..... 55 minutes, after what seemed a never ending bus ride later we finally arrived at Ajman bus stop (a separate city to Dubai.. Yikes) Another 10 minute walk through the back streets if Ajman and we were at our hotel,my brilliant idea of booking a nice place for us....nice place, WRONG city.... Oops!
Exhausted, hungry and dehydrated by this point with still another 4 hours until we were able to check in to our room. However after using my English charm ;) we were able to check in 3 hours early! "A 15 minute nap and then we go book our trip and get some food".... Yeh 3 hours later we woke up in a panic that we haven't book anything for tonight, so we try to ring around but no luck with getting answers.
Luckily for us the bell boy called Jude saw our stress and rang his friend who worked in the tourist business, with his help we managed to book the desert safari trip which we wanted :-) and we had two hours until we were getting picked up.
An hour later we had a call from reception, that our bus has arrived :-/
Rush, rush, rush.. Jumped in the jeep and we were outta here!
Desert safari!
There was 6 of us in our jeep and we were the only 2 who spoke English. We arrived at the desert and the forward drive a cross the desert began.
AMAZING.. Such a thrill, up and down over the high sand of the dessert. About 30 jeeps in a convoy, skidding through the soft sand. At some points the jeep would be on only 3 wheels. At one point the driver chucked on some Barry White as we driving through the dessert which was quite entertaining! Ha!
After the ride we stopped in the desert for some sunset pictures of the dessert before heading to a camp in the middle of the desert for our evening entertainment.
Once we arrived at camp we were surrounded by all the culture and different stalls of Dubai. We had a camel ride, a henna tattoo, smoked a shisha, ate falafel, had a BBQ buffet, watched the belly dancers and men dancing with these big twirly dresses on. It was an amazing night. Something we would suggest for anybody who makes a trip to Dubai.
The night came to an end and we heading back to our hotel both shattered from our day.
This was day 1 of our travels and it couldn't have started any better. :-)
Nos da!
