Our jourey to Guarda took us through the mountains between Spain and Portugal. We took a route down small winding roads which took us through tiny little villages and came across Mirander del Castana the most amazing village in Spain we have ever seen. It really was medieval the streets were small and narrow and of course cobbled. It was hard to describe but was reminiscent of a London street during the Great Plague we were stunned. Further on there was another little gem of a village which still had an old bull ring intact. Whether or not they every used it we don't know..it was well off the beaten track.
We entered Portugal and immediately noticed the difference in the landscape which was much greener. Petrol was more expensive so we went back across the border and filled up in Spain. Our first stop was a town called Guarda which had a Municipal Camp site. As we pulled on an English guy stopped us and said not to bother driving to the top as the site as it was overrun with Irish Tinkers. We went up later and it was but they all had their usual huge caravans and big fancy 4x4 vehicles with Irish number plates. We strolled down into the town at night and wandered with the locals around the town square.
