Nik and Nat's Adventures
I know..I know, still haven't improved on the old updating of this website. I guess I will have all the time in the world when I get home, but by that time you would have heard most of the stories and seen the photo's anyway. I can't help it, I am just having too much of a good time!
So after saying goodbye to Nat, and wishing her a fab time in Fiji, I decided to see out the last of my trip in The Bay Of Islands. Had a very lazy day on Tuesday, which I felt guilty about at first, but then realised that was the whole point of me coming up here, so it was ALL GOOD. Had a bit of a money situation so no drinks for me in the bar that night, but Mum came to the rescue and after what seemed like days but in fact was only hours, my bank account sighed with relief. Another lazy day sat on the beach in the sun reading a book on Wednesday, but later on in the afternoon, I joined about 25 other people to board "The Rock". (Sorry Nat, no actual sign of The Rock you like.) The Rock is basically a barge boat that has been turned into a backpackers get away out into the bay. Started the evening off getting to know everyone and then had a shooting competetion. A plastic bottle was tied to a rope and dragged from the back of the boat. We had three attempts each to hit the target, which was moving all over the place, and I managed to get it once, which meant I went though to the second round. It was girls vs. guys, and in the next round it was hit the target or you are out. I can't believe I hit it again, so I won a nice cold beer. Excellent! It was good for me as I had no money for the bar so at least I got one beavy. Then tried my hand at fishing but not one of us was successful, so no yummy fish for dinner. Slept overnight on the boat, and the next day I did some Kayaking, Snorlking before climbing up a hill to find a stunning view out over one of the 140 islands and the beach below. Can't believe how much better the weather is up here, compared to the rest of New Zealand, but alot of it is due to the fact we are a lot closer to the equator here. The water is crystal clear, and we even went snorlking for mussells. In the afternoon had a couple of spare hours just to laze on the beach before heading back to Pahia (The main town/village, where I have been staying). I then tried my first mussel, which was alright so had a another one. Was feeling brave so also tried part of a sea urchin (sorry cant spell), which was just wrong! Great trip, met loads of new people, most of who where either from Romsey, Southampton or had been to Bournemouth at same point. Had a BBQ for dinner, and of course I had to make the most of the drinks vouchers I had, so just went out for a few back in the village. This lead to taking part in a crappy pub quiz, where our team "The Unpronouncables" came 3rd..Good Effort. The evening was then followed by setting Samboca shots alight while it was still in my mouth...mmmm!...then doing Karoke singing my heart out to Chers shoop shoop song. Suprisely the pub didn't empty everyone got up and danced instead..not what I was expecting. But no the fun didnt stop there. We all raced back to our dorm rooms and grabbed our swimmers, it was time for a quick dip in the sea before bed, by this point the crew from The Rock had joined us again for all the maddness. Woke up with a clear head today, so now I am off to make the most of my last few hours here before catching the Kiwi bus back to Auckland. Boooo! Anyway flying home on Sunday, so this time next week, hopefully I will no longer be jet lagged and I will be getting around to catching up with you all.
Til then everyone take care and I shall see you soon. I am sooooo excited!!!!!!!
Love Nikki
