Just one week to go before me (sg) and my sister (jc - stands for Jacqueline Carol) pump up our tyres and ferry across to St Malo, Brittany to begin our 'Manche to Med' cycle ride. We have got the essentials sorted, principally two working bikes, a spare tube and some Mars bars. We also have a rough plan. The Plan is to pedal about 50 miles per day and to reach the Med (around Narbonne way) in around 2 weeks or so. We're hoping to find accommodation along the way and then to fly home. I've put in the miles training and have (at last!) broken in my Brooks leather saddle. Conversely, jc has relied on her "inate fitness", although I understand she has done a couple of sneaky 50 milers over the Late (apt word here) Summer Bank Holiday, as the panic sets in. Let's hope I don't have to 'drop' her and leave her to survive, like Bonnie Tyler, lost in rural France with just 4 words of lingo ("bonjour" and "my tyre's flat").
The route should take us south towards Bordeaux before swinging east through Toulouse and along the Canal du Midi all the way to the Med. Near Limoges we hope to visit Le Village Martyr at Oradour-sur-Glane
(worth Googling).
That's the plan. We'll see how it works out!

Peter Lamb Steve, I'm so enviuos! I am sure that you will have a great time - what about a detour to climb the Ventoux - with pannoers? Now that would be great. Will keep an eye out for you on the PC. best wishes Pete (of semi-used Colnago fame)
spiderman I hope your not going to be mean to your nice sister
Ange Is this for pleasure or charity?
Steve Just a holiday Ange, so pleasure - hopefully. (My left knee needs a cartilage operation so I don't know for sure that it won't pack up. Fingers crossed.) I see you're cycling yourself. Perhaps you can join us for a stretch of the Garonne?
matthew Good luck with all your pedaling and stay safe! It seems you have plotted a very nice journey. Bristol Hotels
