Another 18hour bus ride and we arrived in Salta, which is in the North of Argentina almost in Bolivia. We got to our hostel and were really happy to find out that it was free to stay there and you only had to pay for food and drink, which was really cheap anyway. BONUS!
That night we had some drinks and got to know some of the people staying there. Dre, who owns the hostel, is a massive English guy who loves American football so Ben was happy!
Whilst we were here, we spent one day just chilling by the pool, which was great because you could just lay and look at the mountains. We went on a road trip to Cafayate with Fraig, Kirstin and Chris (some guys we met at the hostel). On the way we got to see beautiful deserts and mountains. It was really hot though so Ben decided to put his arm out of the window. Not a good idea as you can imagine and now his arm looks like he's turning into some kind of lizard.
Whilst in Salta, we also spent a night on an Enstancia (ranch) and had a go at being Guachos (Argentinian cowboys). The owner of the ranch, Enrique, was hilarious and his favorite English word rhymed with ducking- so funny in an Argentinean accent. When we arrived at the ranch we started a 2 and a half hour ride. It was both of our first times ever on a horse so we were a little nervous, Sarah more so. It started off well but it turned out that Sarah's horse took a disliking to her and decided to do whatever it pleased. Ben loved it and even had a go at galloping.
After, we had an amazing lunch although Ben wasn't feeling great, due to his lizard arm and went to catch some shade in the room. Sarah went out on a second ride, this time with a different horse, which she felt so much more comfortable with. So much so, that she had a go at galloping too!
In the evening we had a lovely meal and some wine, accompanied by an attempt at Spanish scarbble with another English couple. It didn't go so well!
The next day we headed back to your hostel in Salta so that Ben could watch the Superbowl with Dre. Next off to Tucuman.
