Hi all,
Its been a little while since I last wrote about our travel plans, so I have decided to write a little update...
Whats new??
There have been some big developments within the planning process for our travels!
Firstly, with the help of my good friend and work colleague of mine, Jim White, we have been put in touch with some very kind people who have offered us a bed for a few nights in various places around the world!
When planning to go travelling, the idea of someone welcoming us into their home and giving us a bed without asking for much in return is some what of a dream! Having heard stories of travellers landing on their feet, meeting people who have helped them out along their route by putting them up for a few days, you feel that luck must play a part for these people as much as fate to have met these people by being in the correct place at the correct time. Not really sure, but always hoping that we would have such stories to tell of kind strangers helping us out, our plans have been taking shape by looking at accomodation in the various places we are going.
However, after Jim sent out a message to his brotherhood of Grenadiers, we have found that such kind strangers exist. It is simply a case of, "if you dont ask, you dont get", with a little bit of "who you know and not what you know" :-). We have been overwhelmed by the offers coming from Jim friends, and are currently in talks with at least 7 possible stops along our route around the world. Exciting times are definatly ahead!!
Secondly, we have been given a website called helpx.net by a Grenadier. After checking it out, it looks like another excellent opportunity to stay with some locals. It is a website which advertises possible homestays and farmstays. In exchange for 4hours work a day, you get free accomdation and free food in most places. There should be some definate opportunities on this website for us to learn so much more about the locals and their way of life, whilst also saving some money when in various countries.
And finally, I have just got a second job through the summer working for the charity named "the challenge". Not only will this be an excellent experience working for a great cause but it also helps to build up some extra funds for when we are away.
Whats happening next?
We are still saving up as much as we can, and after my car died around 5 weeks ago now, I am being able to add a few more hundred pounds per month by making saving on petrol and insurance. It is difficult towards the end of each month we seem to be takin a small amount out of the saving which is quite depressing but the savings account is building up nicely.
Communications with those people who have been in touch to help us out when we are in the various countries will continue and maybe even some definite plans can be made to go and stay with some of them.
We are going to search all over the helpx.net website and find then best possible opportunities that would be availible to us from there.
Visas and travel insurance is going to be sorted towards the end of summer, so in a couple of months. Then we will basicaly be ready to go!! :D
We both are really looking forward to setting off, it still seems so far away at the minute, and work and saving is kind of getting us down a litttle! But we keep thinking of the bigger picture, and then things seem to be OK!
Hope you enjoyed reading this, thank you for your time, please comment, itd be nice to hear from people!
