We could tell just by sitting on our Thai Airways flight we were going to like Thailand!!!! Extra leg room, great service and amazing food!
First stop was Bangkok, it was just as crazy as expected! Getting anywhere was soooo much hassel I hate haggeling. Taxis, tuk tuks, why cant they just tell you the proper price and then we can pay (its sooo simple!). It was so long, they would say 500 baht (when it should be 100) and then you spend ten minutes getting nowhere. When you go to walk away they say yes to the proper price!!!!! The taxis never want to put the meter on so Jon would have a big debate with them every time, METER, no meter, METER, no meter, METER METER METER.
The first guest house we stayed in was nice our room was really nice and the owners loved jon & me.
We decided to visit the Grand Palace. On the boat ride down the river we met 3 over english couple who we got chatting to. On the walk from the boat to the palace we were approched by 10-15 different people who all told us the palace was shut for the morning but they could take us to see big buddah. I remembered reading in the lonley planet this was a well know scam. But as so many people were telling us it was closed I stareted to believe them. Anyway when we got to what we thought was the entrance we were told again that it was closed so the other 3 couple went in a tuk tuk that magically apeared to see the big buddah. I still wasnt sure so we went to the next gate where we saw people coming in and out. We walked in and asked if the palace was open. The people behind the desked looked confused and said yes!
After the palace deception incident we didnt belive anything people told us! As the trip went on we began to realise not all Thai people are crooks.
The palace was beautiful. We saw the changing of the guards and the emerald buddah.
Kosan road (backpackers central) was very interesting we didnt stay there but we ate some very good spring rolls.
Beer is cheap in Thailand I tried to like it but it didnt work!
On our first visit to Bangkok we were very dissapointed (I was) as we did not see any lady boys. Luckily on our second visit we saw quite a few! They were better looking than the ones we saw in Rio.
Bangkok is very polluted, noisy and busy. But its suprising nice! Especially if you move away from kosan road! Next time we will send at least a week there.
