Hi sorry it's been a while since we have updated you all but the internet here is 4 dollars an hour which is rather expensive! There is free internet in town but you only get half hour and we've been using that time looking for work and cars! now we have a laptop i can write up in advance so i we can give you more detail rather than frantically typing away before my time runs out on the internet!
After arriving on the ferry from koh tao to koh phanghan, we found out we were just a few resorts apart from Jacob who was on our diving course!we arranged to meet up with him a bit later after we had settled in. He had a courtesy taxi from the port but we had to pay. After arriving at our resort on first impressions it looked quite nice, quiet with a pool area and lots of birds everywhere. An English guy called Paul checked us in, the booking had been messed up and he said it was only for 4 nights when we had paid for 5 But that all got sorted and he showed us to our room. At first it looked really nice right on the beach and it smelt clean. We were pretty tiered as we had been up early to dive and as we were heading out a bit later we had a little afternoon nap. Adi woke up to find a cockroach on his neck! luckily I slept through and didn't know about it! This was the start...after that we noticed there were lizards living in the roof and lizard poo dripping from the ceiling tiles that were missing or had holes. That wasn't too bad as the lizards would just run away if you made any noise or movement. The bathroom was like a wet room with a pipe for a drain with no grill on it. So anything could climb through the pipe and It did! a couple of times I had to chase frogs around the bathroom trying to get them back out the little pipe they came in from!Adi also found where the cockroaches were living they had eaten away at the wood in the door frame of the bathroom. So adi gaffer taped it up! After that we didn't have many more cockroaches. In the restaurant area there was a hornets' nest and a monkey chained up which didn't like females …or males that much either. But not surprising as it could only move about 2 meters! …We know for next time not to stay at charm beach!! Back to the fun stuff though, later that night we met with Jacob he was only a few resorts along but the tide meant that after about 6 we couldn't reach it by the beach. After about 20 minutes of resort hopping trying to find a way through, we finally walked to the main road and reached his place. It looked nice and had pools it also was a bit more lively then our place. He had met some south African guys and an American so we all headed out it was a fun night we went to the jungle experience which wasn't much of an experience and wasn't that great so we headed off to the beach. it was a really fun night with large bars playing different music, a foam party and fire shows. I had a go at fire limbo and got down to the last few rounds!Throughout the night we ended up bumping into all the people we had met in koh tao so we all partied together and it was a really good night! At about 4 or 5 in the morning Jacob wanted to head off so we got a taxi back to our resorts, however it started to pour down with rain! As the taxis are open at the back we got drenched and the journey seemed to last forever! We finally got dropped off at the top of the road to our hostel and had to run back when we got back we had to leave our clothes in the bathroom as they were so wet!!
We had a good few days going out we had reverted to western food by this point…good afterdrinking as spicy noodles doesn't quite feel right after a night out! We were also resting in the days as adis foot had swollen up from blisters from his flip flops! When it came to the night of the full moon party we had arranged to meet Jacob and the American guy Ryan. When we arrived in haad rin where the paty was Ryan arranged to meet a friend from back home. So we all went with him and we all ended up getting painted in aluminous paint. We headed to the beach and couldn't believe how many people there were. we couldn't even get on to the beach as it was so packed! Throughout the night We kept loosing each other luckily we kept finding each other again and we also met someone else from Colchester! We stayed until sunrise and then headed home. The taxi dropped us off at the top of the road where we then had to walk down a dirt track to get back to our bungalow. I managed to stub my toe on a rock and break off half the toe nail and skin which was really sore for a few days. After all the antics we were deciding where to go next we had been told koh sumi was a bit built up and not as nice, so we decided we wouldn't go there and to get to phi phi it would be another boat and horrible bus ride. We didn't want to do either so we decided we would head to the north of koh phangan. We had been told it was a lot quieter and had nicer beaches. As we were feeling a bit rubbishy after staying at the infested bungalow we thought we might treat ourselves to a bit off luxury. We had been given a brochure of a fancy looking hotel so we decided we would go there and find out how much a room was, we thought we might be able to afford maybe one night. So we got a taxi and headed up to haad yao bay where the hotel was we knew there was cheap accommodation there as well if it was too much money. When we arrived as it was low season they had a deal on. So we got a room for one pound more than what we were paying at charm beach and we got a buffet breakfast, TV and a fridge with fresh bottles of water each day! So we decided to stay there until we we're going back to Bangkok! We just spent days being lazy watching TV or sitting by the pool or the beach, one day we rented out a kayak and kayaked round to the next bay though it was a little choppy and breezy which made it a bit hard. We moored up and went snorkeling. We wanted to explore as there was lots of waterfalls and beaches to see but you could only get taxis which it would have been four pound each way to go to each of them and it was only about six pounds to rent out a scooter for the day. After much consideration we decided to rent the scooter! Adi took it for a quick drive up the road to get used to it before I got on the back. When I did I was screaming pretty much the whole way the roads are really bad with big bends and steep hills a couple of times I had to get off as we couldn't get to the top of the hill with both of us on it! We drove to wansai waterfalls which have big pools you can swim in but I couldn't make it all the way to the bottom as the path was really bad with a sheer drop I had already fallen once without the drop! After there we headed to a beach with an island off of it called koh ma which was really beautiful a long sandy beach and was meant to be good for diving and snorkeling but we didn't stay very long as there was still more places we wanted to visit. So we carried on we made it to the very north of the island to a place called chakalum which is a little fishing village where they make a local delicacy dried squid it absolutely stunk! Rows of squid drying everywhere we decided to have some lunch and found a little restaurant, adi had battered squid and I had a noodle dish. Afterwards adi had seen a wakeboarding place so we went there to get a leaflet to see how much it would cost. The guy was there and he was from England he told us how much it would cost and said adi could go out there and then if he wanted to so he did! We all headed back to the harbor and got on the speedboat adi was given a quick lesson and then got in the water to try it for real they guy was really impressed as he got up first time and was even doing jumps! When we arrived back on land we headed to paradise waterfall which was nice, but there were mosquitoes everywhere. Adi had a swim whilst I got eaten alive! We didn't stay to long and started to head back to our hotel we stopped at a little market and tried some food we have no idea what some of it was but it was nice and very cheap. The rest of our stay we spent relaxing and went out snorkeling a couple of times, one time we went out there were a few barracuda adi said he would swim to make them come my way just saw them I felt something on my back. Thinking it was a bit of floating rubbish I just brushed it off and put my head back in the water then I felt it moving on my head and it wouldn't get off so I started panicking and screaming adi thought I'd been attacked by one of the barracuda! when he came close he saw that it was a swimming crab, so he got it out of my hair and then it started to go to attack adi! We went back in and had a look on the net about them and if you get in their way they pinch until you bleed! After all that we enjoyed our last few days of luxury and got ready to head back to the madness of Bangkok.
More stories to come soon alice and adi!
